Default Just got my car BACK!!!

Nissan just finished replacing my motor today and it is SO nice to have my Z back again. From what I know, I think I have an 06' engine in it now. The dealer said it was the same part # as my 03 engine but it has a timing chain in it now instead of the belt, so I am not sure. The bill was 8k for the change though. I am so glad that didnt come out of my pocket

Anyway, it feels pretty good. For those who bought their car new or know, how long do you consider the break in period?

1200 miles. It's funy though that the ferrari factory runs each car at full throttle to test it. So why do we have break in periods

1200 seems to be the norm.

I just blew a motor in an 03 also. What happened to yours? Did you have any mods on the car? Did Nissan give you any trouble with the warranty?

Yeah what happened? How many miles did you have before you motor blew? And what year did they put in the chain vs the belt. i never heard of that?

They never had a timing belt in any 350Z. Was the timing chain the problem though? I would be interesting in knowing as we replaced mine when we installed cams as it had stretched out of spec. We also replaced some warn parts as a result.

when I was first looking for a Z, I went to a dealership and the dealer said that from the 05's on they all came with a timing chain versus the timing belt. Maybe he was wrong.

As far as my motor, I went through the oil consumption test and replaced my motor after it went through 1.25 qts of oil after 600 miles.

Its hard not getting on it right now because I want to see how this new motor really feels compared to my last one but I will make sure to go that 1200 miles...

that shows you how intelligent those peps are... all the z motors have a timing chain...The rev up motor has a slightly different timing setup due to the different VVT...

My question was that why do we have to follow break in procedures when the ferrari people are driving there cars hard even before they sell them. Does it mean that we really dont need to drive slowly?

Actually I've heard that for the first 20 miles to drive it like a bat out of hell. The reason being is so the piston sleeves get seated properly. Then resume the normal method. If I'm wrong about that dont start chastizing me. I know how you forum people get. Lol

1. THEY MAKE IT.
2. YOU BREAK IT.
3. THEY TAKE IT.
4. REPEAT AS NECESSARY.

dude.. all the Nissan since 02 altima has Timing Chain no Belts.!!

and about break in period.. i dont belive that cause my friend did the break in period thing for bout 1000.. and his car is slower then mine.

just drive it how you would. its not like your going to mash on the car "ALL" the time, from stop light to stop light

I have no idea and neither did the dealership. The dealer said it shared the same part# as my 03 so who knows, they might have some 03 engines sitting around somewhere. I do know that I have the same ECU in the car so if it has the revup motor then I would assume they would have swapped out the ecu as well.

The thing that sucks is that the warranty didnt start over for the new motor. I have 48k on it now and have until 60 before the warranty voids on the new engine.
