Default Damn belt noise!

I have about 28k miles with original belts and pulleys. I used to get the belt squeal when it gets damp out and goes away. Now its always making noise! Is it time to replace the belt already? Noise is driving me crazy. My 96 Inf g20 with 95k miles is quiet!

Same thing just happened to me. At first, it would only squeak when damp or raining then go away after a while. The last 2 time it happened it would keep squeaking for 4 to 5 days after it rained. Last oil change I had both belts replaced and it hasn't happened since. The replacement for both belts was $115. BTW, my belts only had 23,000 miles on them when this happened.

Dont you guys still have warranties if you are under 36k miles. I had the squeel also, just took it to the dealer and they replaced everything for free no questions asked. BEN

Usually, you can get rid of the squealing by tightening the belts. I just changed my belts at 40k, not because they were worn out but because i put a UR pulley and it needed different belts.

Dont think so, read his post again. Changed his belts, not because they were worn out but because he installed the UR pullies and had to. BEN

Normally the pullies over time get stretched out, there for causing them to loosen. Without any tension on the pullies the belts will make this awful screetching noise! Just go to any shop, or you can even do this yourself. You need to have the belts tightened.

It's 36k miles OR 3-years. I hit the 3-years first.

Yes, its pretty easy to tighten the pulleys yourself. All you need is a jack or some ramps to lift the front of the car and a wrench

All the mechs I showed my car to agreed that the belts were not loose.

Today, one put a dab of goo on the belts and pulleys to "clean" them. I think the bottle said "silicone caulk", but that can't be right, maybe it was a silicone lubricant.

Anyway, the car idles smooth as butter now, so I suspect this will solve my problem.

Replaced the belts, now its silent. They said belts were worn. I guess because of all the hard driving.

Well, that didn't work...seemed nice for yesterday, anyway.

Guess I should get some new belts, too.
