putting an rb26 in the z requires a substantial amount of fabricating/cutting of the car. its not as easy as a bolt on motor swap for a 240. 20 grand is very realistic considering that the car will require

standalone ecu
lots of custom parts (motor mounts, downpipe, exh, intercool pipes, radiator, tranny mounts, wiring harness, etc)
modifying the firewall
completely removing the stock wiring harness/ecu, then tuning a standalone to work

its not like these shops do a lot of volume on these swaps as well. its cheap for a honda/240, cuz the shops have done dozens of them and know how to do it already.

Lol this is a 350z forum guy. RB26DETT is totally different from an RB25DET. Swapping into a 350z is totally different from swapping into a 240. I'm really young and you are why a lot of young guys get bashed. 08 => soph in high school?

How much would a shop charge to swap in a fully built brand new VQ motor for my old VQ

Has or Does anyone know if an RB26 would fit in a 350Z. I can only imagine what a well built and well tuned skyline motor would be like in a Z. I am just wondering. Thanks

Yes it fits, a buddy of mine has it.
People say it's not worth doing the swap because by the time you realize how much you spent you could have a very nicely built VQ-engine.
Well, it's unique, that's for sure, the RB26DETT is a monster and can handle boost easily, since it was built for boost in the first place.
I think if I had the money to build a VQ35 or do an RB26-swap, i would go for the swap, just because I could. I think in the end the RB26 is more reliable than the VQ35 as far as boost goes, just because it was built with boost in mind.
But hey, that's just me

What a ****in ripoff..

I talked to them too. Basically they also want you to pay for the "R&D and custom" costs. What a joke. Then again they probably told you that so you can wander off.

You can use the RB25DET RWD tranny case instead of the AWD trans. None the less, a built VQ w/ twins will put out the same power as an RB and might eevn pass inspection.

err....

Twin Turbo Charged 2.6 Litre In-Line 6 = 280 PS (206 kW) @ 6800 rpm and 289 ft·lbf (392 N·m) @ 4400 rpm*

*Quoted from the WIKI

NATURALLY ASPIRATED 3.5 Litre V6 = 287 hp at 6,200 rpm 260 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm
- For the '03 year Z's

The numbers get lost in translation when converting over from PS/KW/HP, but they're not a huge difference.

The way I see it; a fully built Z engine can match up to a fully built GT-R engine.

I mean apples and oranges when comparing the two, but still...look at the numbers.

For that price it would be the dumbest swap in the history of swaps

The RB will never makes as much usable power as a built VQ period....a 4.2L Z on high boost will walk RB dyno queens with supra power ramps....

The next gen Z motor is gonna be much better and stronger and will be a nice big displacement motor for making huge power while maintaining an actual powerband

Here is a pic of the top secret car taken last Friday at the D1 competition in NJ.

And here is a BMI video of the RB26 powered Esprit 350Z.

If it would cost you 20K to swap and build, wouldn't you rather have a skyline? I am sure with enough searching and work you could find one (not a GT-R) and build it up.

Did they keep the twins? Thank god, I don't know why other than the response of it, but I love them.
