just get what you want.... i got a AT.. people ask my why i got a auto.. and i said because i wanted to... lol.... just because its a auto dont mean you cant fix its performance... you can add a Turbo on a auto.. etc... but of course people who drives manual will say get a manual.. people who drives a AT will tell u the same.. best thing is go test drive both and get what suits you...

I have 5at and it's a compromise... I wish it was practical to get 6mt but for me it's not this being a daily driver.

Ask yourself why you're buying the car... are you going to race anybody? Is it for your own pleasure? Or just for the looks...

If it's for your own pleasure then get the model that will make you happy and ignore other people's opinions....

Would I trade in my 5at today...... no way...

Will I buy a 6mt in the future, definitely when I can afford 2 cars for myself...

The Z is a sports car.

Aggressively tuned 3.5 L V6...6 speed manual gearbox...rear wheel drive; in a sleek 2 seat package. I don't care what Nissan wants to call it on the invoice
Sports car...

I own an 5AT. The original auto trans sux. With my ATI Procharger at WOT I hit the rev limiter constantly because the auto didn't shift quick enough. Don't even think about using the "tiptronic"...

I had to get the ECU reflashed to solve this problem. AT still shifted sh!tty tho.

I then got the Auto Valve Body rebuild and since that, I think it shifts quicker than I could with an MT at high power; and when cruising around you don't even feel it shifting anymore.

First, I'm new here, and I'm sorry I didnt know about the "Search" option on forums, never been involved in one before.

Second, I'm 21 and yes I want a car that is FUN TO DRIVE (I've only had 1 car prior and it was a 93 Accord, give me a break!) This WILL be my daily driver but I dont mind shifting, I enjoy it. My question mearly was, is this dealer smoking crack or what? He acted like he was trying to sell me on an Automatic because it was beating manuals off the line every time. I didnt believe him and posted my question. Anyway thanks for all the help, and sorry to the *******s that called me out on the search option, haha.

A 5AT will beat a lousy driver (bad shifter) every time. If you spend a lot of time in traffic jams or very slow moving traffic, you might want to get a 5AT.

If you're thinking of really revving it up before shifting the 6MT, get an ECU reflash to remove the rev limiter, hitting that thing is not good for the engine.

Don't be discouraged. 350Z automatic and manual owners are very sensitive about which is faster. The question about faster is not about the car, but about the driver. The automatic and manual are different, but most importantly, both are 350Zs.

Launching an automatic at full tilt is more consistent than launching a manual at full tilt, but in a 350z, stock for stock, the manual can be faster. As horsepower grows, the difference is less noticeable. The problem with automatic launch is that I would normally step on the brake and step on the gas preloading the drivetrain and then suddenly release the brake and stomp on the gas. The electric stuff on the Z may not like this so you will need to search this forum for workarounds. Oh yeah, don't be suprised if you loose grip and go sideways.

With a lot of HP (and no Rev Limiter change) the stock 5AT will not shift quick enough and you will hit the rev limiter one or more times. It happened to me in drag racing before I got ECU reflashed (higher rev limiter) and 5AT valve body rebuild.

The Only time I have ever had a "Performance Issue" running against a 6MT in my 5AT was on a hill climb at about 120+., Third Gear was bouncing off the rev limiter and 4th had no pull, so my friend (in 4th i beleive) was about our pull me. Other than that, it really boils down to a 5 speed with 3.3 Gearing and a 6 speed with 3.5 Gearing.

If you want torque, the 5AT with the 3.9 Gear Mod (About $1000-$1200 Installed) will give you the most bottom end possible for thowing you back in your seat on an otherwise Stock Car.

So Technically the 5AT can be a little more "Fun" in that department.

ALSO, there is a MOMO shifter **** mod for the 5AT that lowers the Stick and gives you the abilit to have shorter throws
in Manual Mode in the 5AT, making it a really fun experience from what I can tell.

the real trick to driving the 5AT in Manual is shifting about 200 RPM from Redline, The Car will then Shift AT redline.. Mad Fun.

I say buy a MT....Look at how many AT drivers try to disguise their shift **** by adding a boot....I think they regret buying the AT and are tired of being criticized for the decision.

MT all the way.
