Default Another Accident Story. any help or ideas would be great!!

what a long night.

first of all, this accident i experienced tonight didn't involve anyone... i was driving on I-380 from syracuse back to jersey city. the weather was horrible and it was snowing pretty badly. i remembering going around 65 - 70 mph. my car turns left and i immediately steer to the right to regain control. before i know it, my car spun out of control and i slid onto the grass patch. felt like disneyland ride except this time my life was put on a line.

doesn't sound like much, but now i have two cracked rims, a flat tire, loose front bumper, tons of mud stains and a lot of grass, and probably other damages that i don't know of yet. tried to drive again but my steering wheel started to vibrate, so i called geico and had them arrange a tow truck.

so now i just have to wait for a call back from one of its agents to come estimate the damage. after that, they'll tow it to the closest nissan body shop and will cover for everything.

besides the whole car thing, even for a minor accident like this, i really realized how easily and suddenly a life could be put at risk. i'm very VERY thankful that i wasn't hurt at all. and i definitely will be more careful next time i drive in ****ty weather.

anyway, i'd appreciate it if there's anything you guys can offer regarding an accident like this. be safe guys, i'll make sure i pray for all drivers tonight.

my advice, never drive that fast in the snow in any car let alone a rwd sports car. Second, I would get estimates from good shops not nissan shops. Not all nissan shops are bad but usually the ones the dealer ones or recommends are bad and in most state you get the choice not the insurance company. Good luck and I hope a lesson was learned in regards to driving in bad weather.

yg_jonzz I am sorry you had to experience that first hand. Sometimes the car just gets away from you, especially in bad weather, and then you realize that you and your family are very fortunate.

You are OK. The 350Z is dinged, but it can be fixed. Many of us have been in similar situations: about a second away from dead. Its amazing how fast things can get crazy at 70 mph.

if you talk like that then that means you have never gotten into an accident. either that or you did but never learned from your mistake.

people make mistakes. and it's easy for you to jump to conclusions. i actually feel ashamed of owning the same car as someone like you.

If you want advice on the insurance claim, I can give you that. I used to be an adjuster, and saw things like this all the time.

First off, you'll be found at fault for failure to maintain control of your vehicle. It sucks, I know, but that's how it goes, since you can't subrogate snow. Secondly, if your rims are cracked, chances are they will find more damage to your suspension compenents. I doubt you'll be close to a total, so don't worry about that. I'm not sure what the laws are in your area about betterment, but if they're replacing tires, be prepared to pay for the wear on those along with your deductible.

If you have any other questions, PM me. Otherwise, stay safe in the future.

i hope you had all-season tires at the minimum, if they were stock tires, I'd make sure you change them this time around...

my stock tires would slip in anything more than an inch of rain... never mind the snow...

YES...You're nuts driving that fast in the snow! Cars and people get banged up doing that kind of stuff. Might want to think about snow tires too.

With Bent/Cracked rims and a busted tire, I would have forgone Insurance and just purchased a set of Wheels 2nd hand and replaced any damaged suspension components. Odds are it would be around or even less than your deducable alone, not to mention the hike in your insurance rate in the longrun.
