My Z is coming up for her very first oil change...

Many people change their's at home with a high quality synthetic oil and Nissan filter. But if you would rather not try it, then your only option would be getting it done at the dealership. They will charge quite a bit for synthetic, though.

I've also done the same thing with my old Altima, but it was at a Midas... I was getting some exhaust work done, and it was cold out, so I had them put in the oil and filter that I had in my trunk while the car was on the lift... they just charged me for 10 minutes of labor. So.. the moral of the story is if that's what you want to do, just call your service dept. and ask. Around here, there's a good chance that they'll do it.

Well, my appointment with the dealership to get my oil changed is tomorrow morning, so I think I'm just gonna let them change it with their "regular" oil for now. I just wanted to know if I was able to bring my own oil if I were to put in synthetic, but just for conventional oil, I don't mind if they just use their Nissan motor oil or whatever they use. But I have a question, If I ever so change my mind later on down the road for whatever purposes, such as driving my car harder and I want to switch over to full synthetic, would that be ok?
I get my oil changed at the dealer for only $9. I bring my own filter and oil so thats definetly part of it but it still keeps my oil changes cheap. Also i wouldn't get my oil changed at Walmart.... there a bunch of highschool dropouts who can't get jobs at dealerships... They have overfilled, two of my cars and one of my friends... by a lot.

Thanks for all the help guys. I just got back from my Nissan dealership and got their regular oil change. It was $40 bucks! Anyway, I asked the service manager if bringing my own oil was allowed, and she said that is perfectly ok. The cost of a synthetic oil change there (not bringing any of your own stuff) costs $75, and she said if I brought my own synthetic, then it would bring it down to $35. Kinda weird, because the regular oil change costs $40. Anyway, I may switch to full synthetic later on down the road. What's good about getting oil changed at the dealership is that you get to keep all "official" Nissan documentation of services.
