Default 350z vs S2000

hello, iam new to this forum

i've got some questions to ask to you guys where i would be able to get some answers from you guys

i am not yet the owner of the S2000, nor the 350z,

however i am willing to purchase one of the vehicle

that i've stated on the title, and start researching on both....

My purchase date would be around next summer, for my high school graduation gift from

my parents (only the downpayment though)..

I am thinking between purchasing 03 S2k and 04 350z, both will be used.

Some of my friends are telling me to get the Z,

saying that it is more for everyday use and is better,

but i can't resist the high-revving motor of the F20c which has the redline of 9k..
(the reason i am trying to get the '03)

also i can't hardly resist the torquey motor of VQ35 and its nice styling...

I know this is the 350z forum, but if you guys were to choose between these

two cars, which one would you choose and why?

Currently I am driving 2004 Honda Accord EX-L 4cyl.

and how much should I pay for nicely cared car whichever it is?

Also when i buy either one it will be used everyday

and will keep the car after college graduation and buy another car.

I would be happy to get any inputs from you guys

and thanks in advance for your input and have a nice day

-MG

we choose zs therefore we are z owners. but in the end, it's your parents money, so it's your choice.

i feel bad. i remember when i was new and i was browsing the forums watchin new people get burned. and then when i though i asked a good question, i got flammed.

but being that this is a 350z site, and 98% of us own 350z's, i'm pretty sure u know what the answer will be. (although some Z owners feel the 00-03 s2000's are way better than the Z)

check out www.s2ki.com. i learned lots about the s2000 from there, as i learned lots about the 350z here... seeing that not too long ago i too was a noob

all and all, yet another 350z vs S2000 thread.

here you go buddy

Here is the deal... if you want torque go 350z. If you want better gas milage and reliability go honda. Both cars are almost exactly the same speed wise. Honda s2k loves to rev.

I was in the same boat as you and chose the 350z due to looks and practicality.... i did not want to drive in the winter with a softtop. My 350z is my all year round car.

s2000's got like 45 torque and feels like 35. My big beautiful, conceited head won't even fit into it, cuz it's small. Other than that it's a nice, dependable ride.

The gearshift in the S2000 is absolutly amazing and the car is a blast to drive, its just not as good of a daily driver with that torqueless wonder under the hood.

Get the S2k, the less 350Z out there, the better.

My advice:
1. graduate college
2. get a job
3. save up some money
4. buy a new car

K don't worry about the people burning you.

I came over the same stuff when I was deciding. The s2000 and the Z are 2 different cars. So atleast you can decide what you want out of a car and choose.

The s2000 is lighter, cornering and breaking is better than the Z, its easier to turn a light car.

But in the 350z versus the s2000, m3, and boxter S @ tsukuba. The s2000 could weezle in on the turns in breaking, but when it came to the middle of the turn they held the same speed. And when they hit the apex the Z took off.

The Z is honestly funner to drive for me. The s2000 is high rpms like you said, thats where the power is. So you have to be a good driver to take advantage of it, gear selection that is.

Like I said the s2000 is light, but its also a roadster. It has less space both for storing things and for driver/passenger. Also the soft top makes for alot of road noise.

Honestly if all I cared about is speed I would get the s2000. You can bolt on a supercharger and there you have a 350hp 2700lb race car. If you want comfort go for the Z.

Its your decision. If you want anymore info I have driven both and will let you know.

Honestly I test drove a Z twice before I decided. I recommend you go drive both of them numerous times before you decide.

Stock for stock the 350z is faster, safer, has more mod potential (lots more displacement) and IMO looks better and is more comfortable to drive on a daily basis.

Don't get me wrong because I love the s2000 almost as much as the Z, it's just a different breed of sports car. The s2000 is a blast to drive. If you're into low speed handling like autoX, cruising with the top down, and wrapping it out to 9k as if it were a motorcycle, go with the s2000. If you like having torque whenever you want it, exceptional high speed handling, a safe ride, and a car that won't ever get mistaken for a miata, get the Z.

+1 test drive both cars.

I think that without the skyline camera car in the way, the s2000 would have taken it.

But to answer the question.... you should look at what you want from the car, I drove one and I didn't like the fact you really had to beat the car to make it move. plus I love torque
