Default Extra Road Noise?

Hi all,
I was just reading the recent reviews listed in the other forum and say the statement that the track model has "extra road noise" at the

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_i...p%3Fid%3D27941

review.

Any idea why the track model would have more noise?

And has anyone seen the interior road noise measurements for any model?

Thanks,
MBEGuy

It might be all those marbles bouncing around the bottom of the chassis. Or maybe it's the antennae clattering around.

Not intending to flame your question. But since the Z is supposed to be a true "sports" car, should there even be a concern for road noise. It's not like it's a Benz or Lexus.

Stiffer suspension can make noise too.

Most performance cars set up for a track get a ton of noise as compaired to a street version..

Thanks for the info,
So if I understand correctly, the track suspension and 18" wheels are the factors the review would have been referring to.

I would like like the see the noise measurements if anyone sees them.....the reason I care is for talking on cell phones and having conversations.

Not to pick on any one car, but my friends S2000 drives me crazy when we try to talk and drive. It is a very nice car but chatting while hauling is hard and whenever he calls on the cell from the car the background is quite load.

Thanks,
MBEGuy

Just the base....and nothing but the base..thanks.

But to answer mbeguy's question, the suspensions from the base to the track models are all the same.
It's strictly the lower sidewalls on the bigger tires causing the extra noise.

BTW, the S200 is also a convertible which would definitely cause a ton of cabin road noise.

Pure speculation, but its common in other model lines to add insulation (acoustic as well as heat) to the higher package levels E.G. LE versus Sport. That extra insulation also adds weight, which you wouldn't wan't in a "Track" model.

C'mon, that's a bit extreme, don't you think? Let's face it, most of us are getting these cars for normal travel on the street and therefore want things like a stereo, air conditioning, and a reasonably quiet ride. If the car was strictly for the race track, that's another matter, but in my case (and I suspect the majority of owners) that's not what it's for. High road noise would be a definite negative for me, even in a sports car. It's very annoying, hard on the ears, makes it hard to hold a conversation on the highway, and interferes with the music from the stereo. It's not an enjoyable thing like a good engine note, just unwanted noise. If the review said that the air conditioner and stereo were crap, would you say it doesn't matter because it's a sportscar? It still makes it a worse car for most people!

Z350z and RocketScientist, you gentlemen are both taking what I said out of context and placing it into the extreme. Cars such as Lexus, MB, Jaguar, and the other high end luxury vehicles are very well known for having low cabin road noise. I'm sure most car reviewers would definitely take note of high cabin noise in vehicles of this type. However, very rarely do you hear complaints about cabin noise for these types of vehicles. If I'm wrong correct me, but when was the last time you read a reviewer complaining about cabin noise in RX7s, S200s, Supras, 300Zs, Vettes, Cobra Stangs, Camaro SS, etc.

No this vehicle is not NASCAR, F1, or any other race inspired vehicle. It is designed to appeal to the masses such as many other 25K to 35K vehicles as you both stated. However, this car does fall into a sports car category. There's always a "give and take." Obviously for this pricing category we know what Nissan has "given" and what they have defintely "taken" out of the car. These "taken" items that have been reported in numerous reviewers' comments include: cheap interior, lack of space, and now we can throw in interior sound. None of these bother me to the extent that I would post and complain about them. But hey, hopefully Nissan takes note of the reveiwer's negative comments and posts (such as these on this board) and does something about it.

Lastly, judging from the video that we saw of the test drive; the cabin noise, to me, wasn't that bad. Obviously, we could clearly hear the driver give his opinion and not be overwhelmed by the "very annoying, hard on the ears, makes it hard to hold a conversation on the highway, and interferes with the music from the stereo" cabin noise.

"At high revs, the engine forces a level of sound and vibration throughout the cabin that's muted in more expensive sports cars." - Autoweek.com

There's always that Porsche Boxster you could get for a more muted cabin ride.

Who cares as long as it doesn't sound like a phart-pipe on a Civic how loud the road noise in the car is? It's a sports car. If you want to bling on the cellie and roll on 20's, buy the G35C. I'm sure it will have what you're looking for.

The Corvette ZO6 sells on the SOUND inside the cabin -- it's amazing and very powerful sounding. Who gives a crap about the stereo when you can listen to the engine.

How I miss my 1980 Rx-7. You want to talk about loud interior noise. Except that is sounded like a weed whacker bone stock.

I'm hoping for a strong sounding exhaust noise audible inside the cabin without the droning of the tricky-lou phart pipes. If you want to watch DVD's and chat with yo' ho's on the cellie, wait for the G35C or get a Lexus.
