This ride is as economical one could get. Gives you performance at decent fuel economy. It can be as good as a Honda Civic, given you drive it right. I Average 27-29mpg in the city; usually 470mi/16.7 gallons. Longest I've driven on the freeway after filling up was ~ 60 miles, averaging around 37mpg @ 60mph. Now I'm a bit above the 1/2 mark on the fuel guage and I've travled 210miles. Guage is reading 27.8; was 28.4 today but I was in the mood for some "spirited" driving :-D

Did you remove the VQ and installed a 4 cycilder or something? Those numbers are almost in hybrid territory considering its a 300 hp engine.

Do you actually make it to even 500 after your tank is empty though?

I guess all the stop and go traffic kills the gas mileage. I hit almost 20 lights and stop signs going to my parents house which is less than 5 miles.

I'd like to know what everyone's average miles/tank is (not best). I'd also like to know what your average speed is for that average tank. I see all of these people getting 400 miles/tank and I figure you guys must be averageing 40-60 mph for a tank. Almost all of my driving is city and the best I can get is 300 mile/tank. My average speed is usually around 25-30 mph for a tank.

I've also noticed our 6th gear isn't very tall. When I had my T/A, I couldn't put it in 6th without bogging unless I was going 70 mph, and that was with a 3.73 rear end. The T56 tranny in that car had a double overdrive. Both 5th and 6th were overdrives. I'm guessing the Z tranny is only a single overdrive due to the fact that I've been in 6th as low as 40 mph.

You thought right. I also have the 3.73 gears. Good combo for street and strip.
Expecially, it you use NOS. Oh, wait wrong usage...

Here's the ratios for you:

1998 Firebird Formula / 2004 350Z

Ratio
1st 2.66 / 3.79 (35)
2nd 1.78 / 2.32 (60)
3rd 1.3 / 1.69 (85)
4th 1 / 1.27
5th 0.74 / 1
6th 0.5 / 0.79

FYI - I did the compro. My Bird gets a best of 28.5mpg on long freeway runs.
The Z gets 29.9mpg. I haven't broke into that 30mpg barrier yet. I'm thinking a NISMO Exhaust will do it though.

Love both of these cars:

On a trip from Leduc Alberta (near Edmonton) towards Vancouver BC, drove 687 km (427 Miles) and still 180 km (112 Miles) DTE. I set the cruise for 115 km (71 mph).

I typically get 350-375 miles in mixed driving, and usually fill up with about 17-17.5 gallons.

I'm currently @ 27 mph. Like you said, i'm usually around 25-3 mph as well for a tank. Shift a bit above 2000 RPMs while being gentle with the throttle and you'll achieve ~ 450+ mi per tank, assuming you're not in too much stop `n go traffic.

I'm just curious, but what's the most anyone has ever filled up there Z. Anyone >18 gallons? I have yet to fill up more that 17 gl. Also somone has to have run out of gas before. Come on, tell us, how far did ya get? How much did it actually take to fill up?

Since this thread started I've been trying to see how far I can can go. So far it's a mix of city and highway driving and when I got home my odo. read 410 with 32 DTE. But today when I left for work it said 55 DTE and it's a 34 mile round trip?!?!?
