New Clutch at 29K
Can you believe that my clutch went out on my 04 350Z with only 29K miles on it. I bought it with 14K and have only had it 7 months. Nissan doesnt even want to replace it for free. Has any one had this problem?

The clutch is a normal "user wear" item just like your tires and brakes. If you sit and do burnouts and roast your tires, is that nissans problem? If you sit and slip your clutch all day long and burn your clutch up, is it nissans problem? When you buy a used car you inherit problems that the previous owner might have created. That definitely sucks though, and it's not cheap. The stock clutch, if treated appropriately, should last well over 100k miles.

Bummer. but like roast said if your new to stick or if the last owner beat the snot out of it you gotta float the bill. You know they wont fix it for free if there is any possibility that it is driver error/abuse.
dont know about the clutch lasting 100k though my last stick i went through 3 clutches in 150k. was learning though, and participated in doing things i shoudnt have.

+1, the clutch is a wear and tear item so it won't be covered by warranty. however at the same time I don't think I've heard of anyone getting 100k miles off their stock clutch yet. maybe its just because not many folks have gotten than many miles on their Z yet, however I also suspect it may have something to do with so many Z owners having their tranny and clutch replaced under warranty due to trans problems.

because it sounds like the prev. owner did not know how to drive a standard and he wore the sh^t out of your clutch......but everyone is right, user wear so you have to pay for it, just remember that bill everytime you don't catch a gear or hang on the clutch....

The stock clutch in the Z is stout. If you take care of it I see no reason why it shouldnt last a very long time. The Z is obviously a sports car, and a lot of drivers are likely to abuse the clutch(for several different reasons). With a competant driver 100k miles is a modest expectation.

I didn't do any burnouts and rev-matched where appropriate and I replaced my clutch at 12K.
Trust me, we all get on the car every once and a while, and maybe I had a dud clutch, but I'm calling the the stock clutch a POS.
My ACT w/ 6 puck race disc has held up VERY well to my moderate driving. Grabby, but I like it.

The stock clutch is pretty good I got 36K on the original clutch still grips great, I autocross and do burnouts for no reasons from time to time, But I do always revmatch I think that can really add a great deal of life to it
Like roast I sure one could get close to 100K with clean shifting and proper revmatching

I'm sorry you had issues with your clutch bobby. My clutch was broken in properly and I also operate it properly. 12k is severely abnormal and indicates user error or a defect from the factory. I've given my clutch some abuse just to see what it would take, and I know damn well my stock clutch is solid. Plenty of people run with significant hp increases with the stock clutch for many miles without burning up their clutch. Alberto - the powershifter - his stock clutch lasted over 50k miles, and I believe it was still good when he replaced it.

Sorry to hear about it, but try to look on the bright side, now is a good time to upgrade the clutch and flywheel for more rwhp, and be all set for a turbo upgrade. Whatever you do, don't replace it with stock.
