Default stalls hot start

Have a strange issue. Car starts fine cold. RPMS go up into warm up mode and then eventually drop down and idle is smooth...everything great.
BUT after starting the car when its hot/warm, the car starts, then when the RPMS drop, they drop down to nothing and the car stalls (not rough just RPMS totally drop down to nothing right after start up. Then if I start the car and tap the gas peddle to keep the RPMS up for that split second when they would drop, the car is fine. Smooth idle, no power loss.
Any ideas?

Did you just recently have the car serviced?

I had this same exact problem right after my 30K mile service. I took it back to the dealer and they re-adjusted my idle. All has been well for approx. 2k miles since.

No Mods. Checked the air filter and it was pretty dirty so I just replaced it, but still the same problem.

Cars at the dealer now. I'll let you guys know what it was just in case anyone else has this problem...They are first going to just reset everything and re learn throttle position etc. Because the idle is fine, power is smooth and everything is perfect on cold starts. So it doesnt sound like a leak or sensor gone bad.

sounds like dirty fuel injectors to me. i once had a toyota van with the same problem you mentioned. i fixed it with three bottles of fuel injector cleaners in the gas tank.

I would hope I wouldnt have dirty injectors at 40,000km's (25,000miles)
But I'll try it if either:
1. They say "we cant seem to figure out whats wrong"
2. They say all fixed and I take it hom only for it to stall on the next hot start.

Hopefully I'll hear back soon from them.

Ok, dealer just called...They cleaned out the intake (and I assume MAF sensor) and then did a reboot and reset/relearn on the throttle position etc. and everything seems to be ok now. We'll see when I get it home if it restarts hot.

Keep us posted on how it is running. They probably cleaned the throttle body and the hit the MAF with some air.

Bobby - where are you getting gas and what kind of gas are you using? To me this sounds like you are using an oxygenate-blend fuel. Try using a lower MTBE blend, or a non-oxygenate fuel altogether. Using oxygenate-blend fuel is known to cause hot-start difficulties/stalling.

They still make gas with MTBE? I thought the gub'ment outlawed that for environmental and health reasons.

It's banned in some places but it's still being used in others. It's what replaced lead back in the late 70's. From what I know it's in the process of being phased out. There are other oxygenate alternatives like ethanol. All of which can still cause hot-start problems. I'm certainly no expert though - just giving a heads up on the likely culprit.
