I personally went with the Z. Why? Because I don't need a backseat, nor do I need all those amenities. Leather sucks where I live (freezing in the winter and wicked hot in the summer), and you don't slide around as much in hard cornering in cloth. I have a CD Player and Climate Control. That will do.

Not to mention, the Z is less expensive than the G.

I'm confused by the answers to this question. The G - not as sporty and for old people? The Z more sporty and for young people. Where I live that is just not true. I hardly see any Z's or G's driving around up here and if I do, the Z's are being drove by the gray hairs and the G's are being drove by both the young and old. Clearly it's different here. But saying that the G isn't sporty enough for a younger person is false, I'm 26, and loving my car. Don't get me wrong, I love the Z as well and if I didn't need a back seat that's what I'd be driving. So the question is - DO YOU NEED A BACK SEAT? Done. Take a look at the pic and tell me this isn't sporty enough for the younger crowd!

Default To G or Z that is the Question.

I am 34, I test drove both the G35 and the 350z, I bought the 350z for four reasons, it was less expensive, it was sportier both in looks and performance, it had two seats and the biggest reason i wanted a selfish, non practical TOY car. I have a 2005 F250 crew cab for moving the boat and family, and my wife has a new Kia Sedona minivan. My 350z was just a third car that would be for me. ONLY ME. Now that I have explained my scenario, I feel that I should add that if it were my primary conveyance I would have chosen the G35, because in a pinch I would be able to carry my entire family. Both are great choices, now as it was before i added my post I leave you with your original dilemma which do you choose. Funny…. Buy both.

For me I personally like everything about the G better than the Z. Although I love the Z as well, I just like the G better. Also I do have a family so I need the back seat, but I could have easily gotten the Z as well cause I have more than one car that has a back seat. To me it's nice to be able to go out in my "Sporty" G with my wife and two kids. That way when I get out of my car I don't look like an old fart driving a minivan. Although I am only 34. LOL

yeah I dont get the young/old scenario...That really doesnt hold any weight. What does matter is looking at both cars for yourself inside and out, and making a judgment based on what you want. I like the Z more because I always wanted one and lines on it are just beautiful. I get compliments on it all the time. To me, there isn't a big jump on the interior either from the G to the Z. I have another car so I dont need a backseat, although I can see how that might be important to someone else. I like the G35 too but it doesnt do it for me like the Z. Just do what we all did...take your time...do the research from your perspective and enjoy driving off the lot in your new sports car. You'll love it either way and so will we. Another satisfied driver! Peace

As far as looks go I can't tell you how many people rubber neck my car. Hell I have people always asking me to put down my window to ask about my car. I went to lunch yesterday and someone asked me if he could take a picture of my G. I went to a car meet a few months ago and and someone pulled up in a Lambo. My car was the first one he went to check out in a parking lot full of bad **** cars. Although my G is far from stock...motor and looks.

Yup, that was the decision maker for me.

We have an '06 Camry, and and '03 Frontier extended cab. so I didn't need a sports car with a back seat. So I bought the Z (Enthusiast)

Age 64, BTW.

I see about 20 G35s a day, all driven by women and older men with the occasional black on black teenager driving, whereas i rarely see a couple 350s a week and im in crowded MIA....its a matter of opinion really just chekc them all out. I was in the same boat but i went with a 06 SA 6speed coupe and i love it...i get stares all the time but you will save gas if u get the 350 since you conveniently cant take more than 1 other person anywhere

Wow! You must live in a different MIA than I do cause I see a chit load of Z's everyday and usually they are driven by older people. I know because I am always trying them, but never get any action. I do see just as many G35's.

People get over it. Neither the G35 or 350z is unique. Both these cars are fuking every where, especially the 350z since you can picked up an 2003 for just under $21K. A brand new Honda accord will cost you more than $21K now a days.

its not about the price, its about insurance and utility.

how many people out there can afford a 2 seater sports car that costs a lot more to insure than a honda accord?
These 2 seater sportscars may not be $100,000 ferraris, but they are unique enough because not everyone can afford a 2 seater "toy"

^^^ Good point.

I had to stretch a bit, because I knew insurance would be rough, as well as requiring a second car for practicality.

This is a very long debate, but I will try to provide neutral reasons.

There is a big misconception that 350z cost more then g35s. I do agree that the average 350z is consistently cheaper then the g35 but you can get some 350z's to cost more then g35s. My friend's 350z actually cost 200 dollars more then by car, and we both got it basically for MSRP.

Pro's for the g35:

1. Back seats
2. More refined interior, and luxury options
3. Better resale value - a used infiniti is better then a used 350z
4. G35 is not considered a "sports car" so no sports car tax

Pro's for the 350z:

1. Better performance for the buck (Think of the money you will save by getting a Z instead of getting a G35 because they will need to spend some dough trying to run what the 350z does stock)
2. Sometimes you don't want back seats - more "sportsy"
3. More aftermarket options to choose

Both cars appeal to all different types of people.

The whole age argument is invalid in my opinion. I'm a young guy, and I see more young people like the styling of the g35 then the 350z unless you plan to put some money into cosmetics where then most of the fans that are really into cars lean towards the 350z's then the g35s. So stock vs stock styling I would say the g35, but aftermarket vs aftermarket would go towards the 350z.

Don't forget the fact that even though the G35 is slower in the straights, they have been proven to get better track times then the 350z.

I am a very big fan of 350zs also. 2 of my friends own it. So I am trying to remain as neutral as I can.

I can see why 350z owners would root for 350zs, while G35 owners would root for G35s. Either way, it's a good decision but I do see more 350z owners in the end wish they bought a g35 compared to G35s wishing they bought 350zs. That's just what I noticed.
All this is IMO.

i'm 21 and the Z is my daily so that is why not having a backseat or a trunk can get annoying, and i still kinda regret not having the G... But I'm paying less for the z then i would for a G...

When i went shopping for a car, i went in wanting an s2000 so when i decided to check out a Z it seemed like it had tons of room at the time.

Oh well i love the Z and if I had the G i would love it just the same

I guess what it comes down to is if this would be your only vehicle, the G would be more flexible.

Well considering that a fully loaded G35 can cost up to $12K more than basic 350z and how so many people in this thread have said that they see way more G35's this really doesn't hold any water. You can take that $12K saving and buy your insurance for 3 years. If so "many" peoople can afford the G35 then others can afford the 350z.

A lot of people can afford a 350z/G35 plus the insurance. Again you can pick up a new Z for about $26K. Even though insurance is expensive it isn't more than $3K or $4K (and that's on the high side) a year provided that your driving record is pretty clean. A car payment for a $26K car is about $500/month. If you lease even less. Say the insurance is $250 per month that gives you $750 a month for car and insurance. A lot of people can afford that. Hell a friend of mine who still lives with his mom and dad has a 350z and pays $700 a month for car and insurance. Maybe where I live there's just to many people with a lot of money, but a $30K-$40K car isn't all that expensive for my city. Chit I can't tell you how many Mercedes S500's, Escalades, H2, etc. I see everyday. Those car are way more expensive and waste a hella lot more gas, but they are still everywhere.

Sorry, but I don't consider either car 350z or G35 unique.

I personally like the styling of the Z's exterior more than the G35's.

Yes I know, your car looks really nice in real life
