Default Here's a stupid question......

I'm going to be buying a Z in April and was reading a lot of the threads. I have one question so far which is, "what is a grounding kit?" (I know, I'm a n00b)

Hey, welcome to the forum! A grounding kit is several cables that bolt onto the main components in the engine compartment to make sure the electrical circuits all have the same common connection. Supposedly this makes for smoother revs, both low and high. Don't really know myself. You can search for threads on it and decide for yourself. Also, see some pics of it.

yeah thats it, looks cool too. someone hooked it up to a obdII computer and it read idle RPM variations as half as much. so it seems to work from a scientific standpoint...

I did it mainly just for something to do... if your into working on your car, go for it, its good fun. altho those selling it are asking VERY good prices, I donno if its worth it if you dont atleast get pleasure from making and installing it yourself.

Thanks, about how much do they cost? I'm only 17, right now I drive a 2003 Acura 3.2 CL Type S-which my mom is taking- and giving me a SS 350Z for college. I have a budget of $1000 in which I am buying rims, Valentine 1 radar and going to hardwire, and new speakers and an amp + sub/ also my parents are going to pay for an aftermarket Navi and screen. I am expecting to have aout $100 left at the end which I was going to add some neon lighting in the interior around the subs, pedals and under the seats - but if the grounding kit helps I will get it if the price is right, afterall I am going to be a poor college student.

Edit: I know a guy that owns a pawn shop and he's going to give me a good deal on the rims and sound.

If I hadn't seen your edit, I would have told you that you're dreaming. The V1 alone is gonna run 400--I know, I have two.

And, damn you're lucky to be getting this car to go off to college. All I can say is I hope you realize life isn't handed to you on a silver platter. ::steps down from soap box::

That being said, welcome, and I really hope you love that Z when you get it.

price for materials alone is 2$ a foot for 4gauge monster cable, and I paid 4$ a pair for 5 pair of gold plated connectors.

total was like 50$ I think. but you need a big crimper for the cable ends, 4gauge ends are pretty serious. that can bump up the cost 25+$, and you need a 10mm wrench, tho its much better to have a ratchet wrench. another 25$ for a set of ratchet wrenches. if you buy the set premade, you only need the wrench... but like I said, if your not making it yourself, Im not sure its worth the money for performance benifit alone.
