Question Odometer Reading? Calculated from FRONT OR REAR?

Hey all,

Just wondering, how is our mileage calcuated?

Is the sensor calculated on the rotation of the rear wheels or the front?

Anybody know?

If it was in the rear, my car would have had around 200,000 miles on it because of the intense drifting I have done before I sold my Z. It's in the front, you can tell because while drifting the speedometer doesn't go crazy like in some front wheel drive cars.

That's what my assumption was.

And since I don't drift...I'm glad you confirmed that for me!

Thanks!

Edit:speedometer is in the rear. Odometer: I'm not sure.

It's in the rear, for sure. I used to think it's located in the front too, but I jacked the rear wheels up one day to work on the car, and the speedometer would move when I accelerated in-gear. The speedometer moved fast like an Enzo Ferarri...lol.

I checked the service manual, and the signal to the odometer passes through at least two major computer circuits. I believe that the origin is much more complicated than a single wheel or axle.

Like most cars nowadays, speedo and odometer are taken off of the final drive, which means it is based on the rear tires on the Z.

Speedometer is affected by the real wheels....exmpl:When I was stuck in snow trying to get out,my speedometer was showing 50mph but I was not going anywhere.
