Default How to get snow off Z without scratching paint

What is the best method for getting the snow of the Z in terms of protecting the paint?

I feel that the icy snow itself that I am dragging off will run across the paint and scratch it.

Who can help with advice?

The best method I have heard of is to apply a generous amount of above 32 degree atmospheric temperature.

Seriously though, I really don't know, I live in Texas ....... but I remember someone saying to just leave it alone until it thaws if you don't want to take any chances of damaging your paint. Otherwise, maybe someone up north and lend more advice.

Good Luck,

If I wait until it melts off it will be on too long. Maybe I can just brush it off without a problem. I guess everyone here has a garage.

Easy. Just keep it in a heated garage all winter!

I suppose you could take it to one of those do it yourself spray car washes and hit it with some hot water. You'd have to dry it there or at least get it into a garage soon though.

Not everyone here has a garage.

I just use the squeegee (?spelling?) [it's made of closed-cell foam] that I use to dry the car. If there are frozen spots, I leave them alone. Haven't had a problem.

That's a good idea. I use the Absorber. I'll try that.

Thanks.

This is what I do. I simply cover my Z with a light weight cover (in my case, the Nissan car cover) before it snows. Then, after the snow, I brush off most of the snow by hand and then remove the cover. My Z looks like it never snowed. Works GREAT! Besides a garage, this is best method to protect your car.

Note: If you can't afford the Nissan or a Custom fit Cover car, then simply buy a less expensive cover at your auto parts store. Remember, the cover only sits on your car during the actual snow storm. It should be removed immediately after the snow stops so there is no chance of freezing. I've never had a problem and it's been snowing in NY quite a bit this winter.

We are going to get pounded with a major snowstorm in a couple of hrs. This winter is killing my Z! I usually push the snow off my Z. I dont think the snow will scratch the paint.

Snow Removal;

Cover Z with Rock Salt - They use it on the roads in the north, so obviously it doesn't harm cars.

how about getting a bucket of warm (not hot) water from the house... and just pour it over the car. It doesn't snow here in the bay area.. but there are time when frost builds up on the windshield and car. I just either hose it down or pour warm water over the car a couple times.

Use a snow brush....

And to the people that said throw water on it......If its cold enought to snow, its obviously near or below freezing, so the water will just turn to ice on the car and in the cracks.

Also, be careful about putting warm water on a cold window, but I'm sure you already knew that. More than likely nothing would happen if the water's not too warm, but windows do break from thermal shock so be careful.

I do not put car cover on...might activate my 2ndary car alarm.

"cover Z w/ rock salt" Ermm..k..just not my Z!

Yea, depending on the temp..be careful about water temp! I know the breaking point of the windows is higher than I could ever subject them to.

Damn the salt/slurpy roads for some days after a snow event.

BOOOOOOOOOO

Default No Snow = No Removal

Simple........

DON'T LET SNOW GET ON THE CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you who don't already know, the 350Z is not a winter car! You are better off buying a $900 beater for the few winter months and let the Z wait it out.

For those of you who insist on abusing the car in the winter weather, I endorse the Nissan car cover. Light weight, GREAT protection, fits like a glove. Let the snow fall on IT (if you must!).

My pristine Z is waiting for the spring....and so am I!

peace!

Talking The obvious solution...

is to make a big hole on your living/dinning/bed room and let the Z sleep inside! Come on, don't you feel sorry for the little Z??!!

Another alternative : gigantic hair blowers. Or regular ones, but you might need a few of them...

Sorry, silly mood today...

While some people up north looked at the snow falling on their Zs, I took advantage of the warm sunny Fla weather and washed/Zaino my car, layer #2 of Z2!

Then I backed it up into my garage, so no birds get any ideas!
