Default Oil pressure sending unit failure.....

I was about to leave NPM 06 when I noticed that my oil pressure gauge was pegged to the right.

I shut off the car, and checked the oil to make sure everything was within normal limits, as they were two days before. Everything was normal, so I suspected a gauge or sending unit malfunction, as the gauge shows over halfway with the engine off and the ignition in the on position.

The sending unit malfunction was confirmed by the dealer today, so if anyone here runs into a similar problem, this will most likely be the outcome, if everything else is within normal specs.

I just had the exact same thing happen. Replaced it for $40-something. Kind of a bear to get to because of brackets and turbo lines.

Default Just posted same issue

My 06 with 8k just went the other way. Under idle no pressure, under lite gas pressure rises to 10+_lbs

Do you have any pictures of where this is located? Mine is pegged all the way to the right (even if I just turn the keys and the car isn't started yet). So I assume it's the sending unit.

RedLeader, what type of turbo do you have?

No, but that definitely sounds like the sending unit.

Mine was replaced under warranty a couple of days ago.

Yeah, I'm quite sure it's the sending unit as well. I have a picture of what the thing looks like, so I'm sure it's not hard to find at all.

350track-
That's exactly the way I approached it. I had the new part in hand and used it to identify the existing one. I have the APS TT kit. It might be a good time to do an oil change while you're under there. You'll make quite a mess if you don't......

I have the APS TT kit as well, so hopefully the clearances aren't too bad under there.

As far as changing the oil goes, well that's what's ironic. I changed my oil that very morning, and the gauge freaked out that afternoon. So now I'm wanting to wait another 3K miles before I change it out. But that's 3K miles w/o knowing my oil pressure in the middle of the summer.

Default oil sender

You might want to drain the oil into a clean container and re-use it. My buddy, a Nissan tech, thought he could replace the oil pressure sending unit without spilling any, but I was going to change the oil while the car was jacked-up and I had the drain-pan ready. It was a good thing. He lost $5 on that bet!

Yeah, I already considered doing this...but that thought only lasted about 5 seconds. I don't want to recycle the oil back into the car...to me it's too ghetto for my car. I'd rather spend another $25 on new oil just to do it right. But now I sound like a hypocrite because I'm thinking of waiting another 3K miles before I actually replace the sending unit (just to save about $25 worth of oil).

While I was experiencing APS oil-smoke problems, I drained, re-measured and refilled my car several times while I trimmed the oil drain lines, etc. I couldn't bring myself to dump clean oil. I guess I'm just waaaaay too practical.
