Instantaneous MPG
Is there a way to get a readout of the instantaneous miles per gallon? I'm trying to find the best RPM at which to cruise and the average MPG readout isn't helping me much

Get to your desired speed/RPM first. Press and hold the bottom button and it will clear the MPG/Avg. Wait a minute and a new reading will display. Keep that up for a few minutes and it should give you a fairly accurate reading for MPG/Avg speed.
With low traffic, gradually accelerating through the gears, up to 6th @ 45-50 mph you should get 30 mpg's (including stop lights every mile).\
Freeway, 6th gear: 60mph @ 34-35 mpgs, few hills here & there.
80 miles on trip A since I last tanked up; 10 miles on the freeway, 70 city, traffic mix, and i'm @ 30.0 mpg's flat. lol

Why does my mileage suck so much? Getting 27mpg was REALLY hard. I averaged 25.9mpg on a 85-ish mile trip yesterday (some traffic at the end). I used to cruise at 75-80 but I slowed it down to save on gas. My mileage went up from 22-23 to 25-26, maybe 27 if I really try. I'm sure my high-flow cats will help the engine breathe easier, but still...
it's too bad they don't have a meter for that. My brother's 3-series has it underneath his speedo, so you know your MPG as you gas it. Though he doesn't have the average reading, which I find more useful.
The instantaneous guage on the 3 series is like a boost guage, just swings back and forth as you're gasing it. Man i found it kinda annoying though; i'd rather it average out the mpg's from when you cruise and when you gas it.

for the people who can get it over 30 mpg. I hardly get it over 28 mpg.
