C&D times
some people say don't compair numbers or numbers don't matter. But I'm a numbers kind of guy, numbers don't lie, and a number is sometimes worth a thousand words.
I noticed something strange in our favorite issue of C&D. Maybe nobody else noticed or maybe its a typo but on page 114, the altima 3.5se is listed at 0-100 in 16.1, 0-130 in 27 (100-130 in 10.9sec).
The 350Z does 0-100 in 13.9 but 0-130 in 26.6 sec. What the hell? thats 100-130 in 12.7 sec !!!
The Z is nearly 2 seconds slower in the 100-130 mph time than a altima with 47 fewer HP. To put that number in prespective the M3 has 46 more HP than the 350Z.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing? I know when cars reach terminal velocity they slow down, but the altima has a lower top speed so it should be slowing down more.
there are three options I can think of.
1)altima is a 5 speed and might be hitting 130 in 4th?
2)this is a typo and the altima actually takes longer than the Z to do 100-130. Maybe the altima number is really 0-120.
3) the 350Z was not producing the full 287 HP, it might not have been broken in properly. If this is the case we might be seeing better numbers across the board

I wouldn't stress over this...this is just another ***** in the C&D story's armor...after the whole weight debacle I have little faith in their #'s (as do most other Z enthusiasts at this point). Stay cool rai....don't sweat it, the Z will be faster than the altima everywhere and anywhere (ok, maybe not in snow)!

We had a brief discussion about this over at Altimas.net:

I was trying to figure all that out just to find more questions. I thought the Altima might have a drag advantage, but they are equal. Yahoo autos has the 3.5 Altima 5sp weighing in at 3225 lbs. How in the world does this four door weigh the same as the Z? Oh, maybe the chassis was overly reinforced for the convertable coming. Can anyone confirm or dismiss my theory?

i guess the only way to find out for sure is to take it to the track yourselves when you get it. remember there could have been driver error or more likely typos. but we can be sure that the info isnt correct.
