I read an article once where shoehorned a TT Supra motor in an RX7. Not a big fan of rotories, lacking torque.

 

SP-Engineering in CA made that car. I saw it when i was visiting (granted at the time the engine was sitting on an engine stand next to the car, lol) They call it the Supra7. Kinda hideous hood though to fit it in.

And you really can't hate on rotaries that much. I owned/modified my FD for almost 3 years ( http://mp-racing.net/rx7.htm ) and loved every minute with that car and really wish I didn't sell it. Those motors just rev so freely, torque really isn't a very big issue unless you drag race all the time. Anything from a roll the rotary is awesome. Super smooth power band, though it can be violent with a big enough turbo, and sky-high revs (i'm sure i hit every bit of 8400 rpm everyday, going down to 6600rpm was a hard move for me). They just got a bad rep. for being unreliable, but the problem was cooling and people modifying their cars and being dumb about it (i.e. Exhaust, Intake, Intercooler, Boost Controller, and no way to tune the A/F).

But back on topic with this 20B Z....I love it.

Wow, pretty amazing. How much does that car weigh? With some weight reduction on the chassis that machine is golden.

+1 Those crazy aussie, I love it. If that doesn't put the weight distribution to 50/50, I don't know what would!

 

I owned an FC that had a rebuilt in it. I still have it in the driveway but will be getting rid of it as the tranny has gone bybye at 268,000 miles and the engine probably has s**t compression from sitting there for two years. I loved the rotary engine. 1.3L with 143 hp. Now, it was no where near a Z, but with 143 hp, it was fast. I like to refer to it as "not really 143 hp", because it doesn't feel like thats all its got. I have also drove and FD ('95). That thing hauled and I made it to 145 before I got nervous.

Another Nissan w/Wankel in it. This is one of the finest 510 ever built. Craftsmanship on this vehicle is bar-none.

 

Less torque, less HP, less MPG, I gotta have this mod. Oh! I almost forgot. More noise (not to be confused with exhaust sound from a performance engine.)

 

I think it's torque, dropping the clutch and missed shifts that are most damaging to trannys. HP, RPM and heat follow.
