Thumbs up Shift Light Helps

I've found that setting my shift light at 3500 (per the dealer's suggestion) has really helped me with the break-in period. Not so much for acceleration, but more crusing along in third or fourth and inching up toward 4K. The light starts blinking at me and I'm reminded that it's still not broken in! Anyone else do this?

Not yet, but I will when I get my car (hopefully by next week!).

Yep, I typically hold on to 4th too long when merging on the interstate. I set mine at 4500 to remind me and usually try to stay below there.

I love the shift light! It really makes things easy. I set mine to 3500 for the break-in period, too. Thanks to the driving position of the car (which I love), the light is right in my lower peripheral vision and its great. I can pay that much more attention to the road.

Thumbs up Same here!

Seems stupid, but it does work very well.

I also set it at 3500 during break in, went to 4K later and now it is at 4500. I don't depend on it so much because I like to drive it windows down no music, but windows up + Music at 28 it helps to remind you.

I also endup on 4th too long, I guess used to older cars, I "forget" I have two more to go... Most of the time it reminds me to go to 5th after getting on the hwy.

I still use the shift light even after break-in. Since fuel cut-off is EXACTLY at redline, that can hamper you if you don't shift right before redline (that is if you're making a 0-60, or 1/4 mile run), so I set my shift light to 6800, so if I shift right when I see it start to blink, it ends up being a perfect shift exactly at redline.

But for normal street driving, I don't really ever even look at the tach. I know by the way the car feels, and sounds when I need to shift, and I don't need the light to remind me.

if you miss a shift while on redline and somehow throw it back into the previous gear does the fuel cut off and shut the engine down?

The fuel will be cut, but you'll still do bad things to your transmission. Your transmission isn't designed to spin fast enough to go from red-line in one gear to the previous gear. That's bad. There's no auto-disengage or anything that will save your tranny.

Actually the problems will be in the engine, not the tranny. If you went over redline on an upshift, the fuel would be cut (rev limiter) and you wouldn't have any problems. But there is no way to protect the engine from over revving due to incorrect gear selection. The transmission can handle the high rpms, the engine can't.

EDIT: spelling...

Default its at 5000

but I think I will bring it down to 4 or 4.5 since I miss the little light.. I dont usually shift past 4 anyways but...

Since you guys are talking about it... I want to go sit in my DBZ anyway.. since it rained and snowed all day.... I drove my truck.

You know how weird it is.. I forget Im in the truck and try merging quickly and in a smaller distance... dangerous.. plus the massive lack of speed.. poor truck.

i did the same thing, i set it to 3500. it starts to blink at 3000.
i'm going to do this 'til 1200 mls., then, i'll take it to 4500 rpms for the next 500 mls. or so.
i may be a little crazy, but..
