2007 350z speculations?
I agree MC this is a very interesting move, indeed. I wasn't sure if we would see an engine change in the current body.
I am very perplexed as to what to do. I had a hard time ignoring the temptation to trade in for a REVUP, and now the VQHR!?!?!?!?
It certainly seems like a new body must be coming soon. They have already done the G, the Z must be next... Who knows though???
So tempting, espically with the new revs and im sure the better higher rev breathing feel performance.
I do secretly lust for a V8, but as long as Nissan is bringing on more revs/power, I think this is going to be a great engine, and may lose that everymans nissan engine.
Going more of a porsche/BMW route with the higher revs is always welcome.
I have a feeling this engine is going to be great.
Yet this is an ackward time to be buying this current gen body, with the new GTR and possibly Z around the corner.
What to do... What to do... Luckily there is still time

Well this certainly mixes things up a bit! I had planned on buying a used '06 in a few months... but now I want to wait and see what the new engine is going to be like, as I had planned to go the FI route. Perhaps it will be better for boost with new internals (although higher CR isn't the best.) Whatever happens, I hope I am able to afford it lolol. I guess the Prelude will do for now
I actually wouldn't be surprised if Nissan pulled a s2000 on the Z by extending its sheet metal to a 8 year stretch given the Z's sex appeal. As for the s2000's engine, they had only one tweak to the engine, right? But I guess the Z is different since its engine is shared w/ the G35s.
But does the '06s rev-up engine really count as a major tweak compard to the HR? I guess the HR wouldn't even be considered a tweak since it's sorta a new engine (though not entirely)?
But in all seriousness, I have this gut feeling that the model year 2008 Zs will probably be equipped w/ the HR and not the '07s (as I would of hoped). In a way it is still possible for the HR to appear in the '07s because the Zs already got two engine tweks, a hp boost from 287 to 300 and then the rev-up in a matter of 4 yrs?
I think depending on how different the HR engine is from the current VQ, technically speaking, it could end up or not in the '07s.

To the weight comparison comments, the 03-05 Z's I believe weigh just as much as the 06's. I believe they were underrated. I weighed mine with 1/4 tank of gas, no spare/jack w/o me in it with the stock 18" Track rims and stock-sized tires, and it came out to like 3223. That would mean it would be well over 3300 lbs curb weight when you include a full tank of gas and the jack and spare.
Just food for thought.

I think this is a strong sign that the Z won't be redesigned as soon as many of us were thinking ('09 with a fall '08 release). The new G coupe is coming out as an '08 and the GT-R is right around the corner too. I think updating the Z mechanically is a very strategic move by Nissan; a lot bigger than interior/exterior tweaks of the '06. But those, combined with the new VQ, to me, seem like the Z has already been given a new life and this will extend a lot longer. A TT-ish cycle, perhaps?

I thought the same thing about the intake. I hope we get some more info soon. The wait is going to kill me.

So the question now is, what if any exterior changes will be made.
I think it sort of speaks of the difference in the market the G and the Z are fighting for.
The G is going to have to be constantly/tweaked updated as it is seen as the main contender to battle the ever changing/evolving 3 series coupe/sedan.
Yet the Z really still has limited and for the money no competition if you are looking for the Z's formula (Coupe/RWD/2 seater)
It would be nice if they made a few changes, perhaps making the front end more aggressive??
I think Nissan is in a unique spot with the Z. Until other makes start flooding the market with similar cars, Nissan can continue to sort of set the pace for the vehicle.

It's starting to get a bit crowded. U have the Z series from BMW, Honda's s2000, Pontiac's Solstice GXP, and Saturn's Sky Redline. And all those cars aren't exactly unattractive either, nor slow. I might be forgetting a few more.
But the Z is unique in its own right
It deserves an update

I'm guessing that the new Z will have the "new key" like the new Maximas. The ones that you don't need to actually insert the key into the ingnition. Or at least give the US the benefit of the integrated key/fob.
