This will all depend on the TQ curve of the engine

Agreed. However Toyota does have the new LF-A supercar and the new Supra coming out which will have 2 engines, one at 350hp and one at 450. Not trying to start a falme war cuz toyota does have ghey @$$ cars right now but they are #1 in the Japanese market.

Has anyone heard anything yet on colors for 07. I really wanted a ZR white with blue top and frost interior. Hurricane Katrina took away my chances of getting an 05-06 so i have to wait til 07. Nervous about them possibly not bringing back this color combo. Any word?

according to nissannews.com the new 80% redesigned engine dosnt seem too impressive, 306hp under then new SAE NET rating is around what the IS350 makes, but not a big jump for all the changes they have made.

That is for the 07 G35 sedan, that doesnt necessarily mean itll apply to the 07 Z.

I wonder what the rating for the old one would be under the new SAE system.

Time for a little research.

According to Infinti the 07 G coupe which still retains the revup engine, is down to 293 HP.

If the Z could land in 320 hp range that would be a nice bump, considering it's under the new SAE standards. Given the G with the new HR engine is at 306 hp, this doesn't seem like a stretch

I could understand that Nissan wants to offer a more affordable entry level sports car. But I don't see how this is the answer. I think that the Saturn Sky looks way better than this. Something seriously must be wrong with them to even think about producing the Urge. Here's some pics I took at the New York Int'l Auto Show.

so now that they turned the compression ratio up a little, it'll be harder to make it F/I??

How much better is the new engine compared to my 06?
I really dont see a big power gain, unless it was F/I.

I'm sure with stronger internals (which this engine could have) and a less aggressive timing advance, FI could be just as easy in this motor. However, to go extreme FI you would have to replace internals to strengthen and also lower the CR anyways.

I don't think the answer to your second question will be known until the actual engine specs are released. A lot of hp can be gained other ways than by FI, however FI is the easiest.

Well, imagine the VQ in that castrol syntec (I think?) commercial that jumps out of the engine bay...it has dual TB's for effect...but thats what it could look like.

Ok think about this the new GTR motor has to come from some where? If you improve the 350z/G35 engine then R&D it for two years in service. You would know that the parts and service are out there for the GTR. The block and the daul intakes are mainly for the twin turbo set up in the GTR not to make the 350z/G35 faster.
Think Big picture

OK, but this will still help z owners because since the engines are being designed for the GTR TT setup (stronger internals, etc), then this should make the z better for similar TT setups.

Of course it will benifit from big brother needing a stronger engine. I am just saying that there is a reason for a better engine even if it has about the same HP and TQ. It would not make sense for Nissan to redesign a engine for 10-15 more HP. When they could just redesign a single part on the curent engine to produce the same. The need has been placed by the GTR not by the 350z/G35. We just get to beneifit form the GTR's need.

So is 306 the number that was announced or did someone just throw that up in the air? I'd be looking for 330-340, (350 would be sweet, 100hp/L and just a 16% increase over the revup's power). I'm saving now

that would be just a face-lift, not a redesign though.
The headlight is too busy, 3 projectors is overkill, and makes it look like a bug, and for some reason it reminds me of the Hyundai Tiburon.
The rear fenders are unproportionate too.

damn this new engine is gonna be really hot if it does come out. But i always thought since back in 2003 that the next Z will probably be a 380Z, that just sounds much hotter
