Up to you to decide if spending $400-$1000 is worth it to merely detect radar, a lot of times it isn't. I rock the cordless Passport, only have to change batteries every 5 weeks or so and the range it good.

Speeding without a radar detector/laser detector is done by allowing the rabbits to get well out in front and then pacing them from a safe distance keeping covering vehicles between you and them. It is aided by driving at speeds safe for conditions, avoiding frequent lane changes, and driving in a competent, courteous, and safe manner. First mouse to the cheese gets the trap.
