Default How do i find out where the leak in my headlight is?

I've got some serious condensation in one of my headlights. I'm gonna take it apart again and try resealing it. Question is: how do i find out where the leak is? Is there some kind of a trick? Perhaps taking out all the bulbs/wires and gently submerging it in colored water?

wow that seems a little extreme. if you submerge it you'll just let the water back in. just let it dry out then caulk the seem. should be good after that.

Default 2 Options

Option 1:

* Take your headlight housing out & remove all the bulbs.
* Allow it to air out to dry or use vacume to suck air out of the housing.
* After condensation is gone, apply extra silicone on all the areas where the two pieces meet.
* Let it dry for 24 hours.

Option 2:
* Open headlight housing & clean/dry it completely out.
* Reseal it & apply extra silicone on all the areas where the two pieces meet.
* Let it dry for 24 hours.

I'm assuming since you said "take them appart again", you tried to do some custom work to your headlights? If you didn't, simply bring it back to the dealer & they will swap them out for you with new ones.

I just had my Z in the dealership last week for the grease-on-the-window fix, and noticed a bit of condensation in my passenger side headlight ('05) and brought it to their attention. They said basically it is considered normal (WTF?!?!?) and that they would replace them if it got worse...

That's the thing, i used a LOT of urethane sealant for it, so it should have been ok. Thing is, i only let it dry for about 30 minutes, so the stuff was still kinda wet when i put it back in. The other headlight came out just fine, but not this one. Think that was the issue? Also, because i screwed up the custom work, i ended up with a 1" hole on the back of the housing. However, we taped it with super-strong metallic scotch tape and applied a VERY generous layer of urethane sealant on top. From the looks of it, it should have been able to withstand a nuclear blast How do i find out if this was the issue or if it was a gap somewhere else? Because i honestly spent soo much time resealing the lights that i can't imagine having missed a spot!

You never want to actually clean the inside of that lens. Youll have so many small fine scratches youll want to pull your hair out!

All I would do is throw them in the oven for 15 mins at 220 degrees, then tighten down all the screws and make sure the clips are on right.

Sounds like you know where you messed up though.

Not sure how you managed to end up with a 1" hole, but post up some pics and I will help.
