Default Thicker mid console

If u compare the mid console in both pictures you will see that the mid console is thicker in the Z with the frost interior. Is this a result of it being an automatic shifter or a production car? Im assuming because its an automatic. Any ideas?

Thumbs down

I assume you are talking about the area around the shifter being higher. That is the case on the automatics, vs. the manuals. I wish it wasn't that way though....

Default Thicker

The first picture shown is definitely an automatic, it has the same type, shape, etc. of the Infiniti G35 Sedan's auto. I ordered a Touring model with the auto; this is the first pic I've seen of the auto console in the Z. I thought the Z's auto would be taken from Infiniti since there aren't any 5 spd autos on any of the other Nissan models. The Z is getting the top components for sure.

Do all of you perceive the console as significantly wider? I can't tell myself.

Boomer--Thanks for the pics, a good job.

The auto tranny in the Z is the same one from the Q45 and G35.

First time I have seen the AT, and it looks pretty good in the picture! Lucky me got stuck with AT, I choose it because of where I live and driving MT here would just be too much of a hassle with the amount of stop and go traffic we have in LI.

One of the guys at the dealer was talking to me about the car and started cracking up when I told him I got AT...he was with that kind of car, you only drive stick but I gave him my whole explanation to why I chose auto and I think he understood or was just trying to be nice

I bought a 5-speed Civic to learn to live with rush hour in D/FW in anticipation of my 6MT Touring arriving late this summer.

He was being nice.

(Back to the original topic)

I think you are correct azmo, in that the auto center console is thicker (in a vertical sense) than the Manual. My guess is that the manual is at the perfect height for constant use, while the auto tranny was 'taller', and required a change to the center console.

You can see from the pics that the sweep from the horizontal plane to the vertical plane of the center console is much more abrupt in the auto. Compare distance from AC control ***** to flat part of console.

Good eye noting this difference!

Seems like a little bit of "Kharma."

I mean after all, who would buy an automatic transmission for a sportscar?
