hehe, there isnt an a4 for the z06, just in a regular c5. but ya... +1 on the z06 if you can get it, it is an amazing car.
In concern with the Z, I would say go back and test drive it but with the TCS/vdc off, whichever is applicable. See if you can get it to reproduce the bouncing while the systems are off. If you can, that is not normal I dont think, and should be though about carefully before deciding to purchase. Good luck with whatever you choose though.

First of all, a bouncing tach needle is not normal. Im surprised no one has posted this yet, but a bouncing needle is a worn-out clutch. When the needle bounces like that, that means your clutch is slipping. Take that Z for another test drive. Go upto about 35MPH and put it in 6th gear and floor the gas. If the needle jumps around wildly, guess what, that clutch is on its way out...

If you have tires that don't match in diameter or highth the slip light will come on ocasionally and you will lose power. As an example when I have my Drag radials on going to the track I have to turn the traction control off or ever once in a while it will cut power. (street tires in front 255-45-17 DR's rear 275-40-17) The car could have had mismatched tires.

As for the needle jumping, I would say there may be a problem with it, don't just take the dealers word for it!
The traction control is handy when you want to stay in control. For the times you get the Z on a track, just turn it off.
I considered the S2000, and several other sports cars before I bought my Z. Go drive each of the cars your interested in, and then you will have a better understanding of which car you want. I chose the Z because of the excellent sounding exhaust, awesome handling, powerful engine, killer looks, and many more reasons. Once I drove a Z, it was game over!
