When i lived in New york...I mailed them a check for a penny more than what it was.,...They sent me a check back for the remainder...Never cashed it, and i dont think the ticket was fully processed.

i was unaware there is a speeding ticket that gives you 6 points. I also dont know how it works in NY but can't you take a traffic class to help remove that offense? It should put you in the clear and shouldn't cause your insurance to go up. Insurance usually look at your policy after a claim, or if you add/remove a car, or just their usual review time which i hear is almost never. Someone can correct me if im wrong. Hope that helped.

Completely false:

http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/ticket.asp

Some people assert they've tried this scheme and it worked, and though it's certainly possible some people who overpaid their traffic tickets never saw any points go on their records, most likely that was a result of coincidence, not cause-and-effect. As most anyone who's dealt with the DMV knows, things do slip through the cracks now and then, just rarely in your favor. If you feel that spending three extra dollars in the hopes of keeping a ticket off your record is a worthwhile gamble, go ahead and try it. You're likely to be disappointed with the results, though.

Don't they have PBJs (Probation Before Judgement) in NY?

I received my first (and last) ticket in November of '05 for 70 in a 55 (lame) which was a 2 point violation, and I was given the option of attending a Driver Improvement Program and receiving a PBJ and no points on my license. Of course, I accepted the judge's offer and the $100 I spent on the 6 hour (which really turned out to be only 4 hours) course actually lowered my insurance by almost $400 annually.

That day at traffic court, there was actually a woman who got an identical ticket, but since she had a completely clean record in her 15 years of driving, the judge dropped it completely.

I'd say go to court! It can't get any worse than it already is, and who knows? You may come out on top as I did!

Does your ticket have a court date? You should get something sent to you in the mail allowing you to contest the ticket in court. As far as I know, points are not actually assigned to your license until a fee is received OR after the court date

Well i guess it worked by luck twice for me...Another trick ive tried was calling and getting another court date because i "couldnt" make it. Its harder for the officer to follow up. And when i got to court they said the state cannot proceed with the charges...

I've never heard of the overpaying trick actually working (except in your case), but I do know some people who have had some luck postponing the court date. 75% of the time, the officer doesn't show up since you'll probably be his only case that day

I was going 51 in a 25 and went to cout and talked with the judge. I dont know why but being in that room always makes me slur my words. haha I can handle the truth!! I won thank god or that would of been speeding ticket #4. I think that I was set up and the cop just wanted to pull me over cause i looked young, driving around at 2:30 am trying to see if i was drunk or doing drugs. So he gives me this lame *** speeding ticket. I couldn't believe how fast he said i was going.

1st ticket Failure to Dim headlights and I didn't have my driver ID (WON)
2nd 58mph in a 40mph zone - (LOST)
3rd 46mph in a 25mph zone - (LOST) Cop lied
4th 51mph in a 25mph zone - (WON) thank god i can talk my way out of a paper bag. I thought the cop was going to cut my Driver ID right on the spot

lol dont get me started with my bike....

136mph in a 55mph zone
108mph in a 25mph zone- Cop was in the bushes 100 yards away. So lucky
95mph in a 35mph zone

Bikes just want to go fast.. I am going to get burnt one of these days.

I find the best way to handle a speeding ticket is to dress nice and go to court. try to talk to the DA, he/she will most likley hook you up. in the least you will just have to pay the ticket w/no points going on your record. I got my Z back in May of this year, and i have got 2 reckless driving tickets so far.

The first one was in georgia and it was compleate bull****. If a cop tells you that he got you w/a lazer ask him how long the lazer was on for. it takes 15 to 20 min for the lazer gun to warm up and be correct. otherwise it is off.

the second one was in north carolina, i just went to court talked to the DA and paid 120 dollars w/ no point going to my record. and i was doing 83 in a 55.

Some speeding tickets I can see getting away with, like out on an open highway and such, but WTF? 108 in a 25?
