Default 6MT Touring buyers check out this thread.

Wheel size changed by Nissan

New "news" about the wheel choice on our cars. Nissan of course has the option of changing specs at any time, but this is a little out of left field and kind of a shock.

Discuss.

Originally the Touring was to come with the same wheel/tire set-up as the Performance. 18x7.5" front and 18x8" rear. The tire sizes were to be 225/45/18 front and 245/45/18 rear. See your pre-order brouchure for the old specs.

Looks like we've had a last minute change.

There are many but one factor is the C.G. IE if the weight distribution was 53/47 or 52/48, will this make it 51/49 or 50/50?

Do misunderstand me. I think the information is valuable. We all want to stay informed but the impact is negligible. Wouldn't you agree.

Personally, I wanted the bigger shoes in back (the 245s) to hook-up better from a launch. I'll just change that when I order new tires, but the last minute change does bother me a bit. Perhaps I am in the minority.

Not when going to a larger width wheel in the front than originally planned.

Just checked out tirerack . . . according to their site, the base/enthusiast/touring 6at have 235 rears, the performance/track have 245 rears and the touring 6mt has 225 rears . . . I hope this is not correct . . . makes upgrading to the touring over the performance less worthwhile . . . I could give a sh*t about the upgraded stereo and the leather seats are only worth so much (esp. after hearing the the cloth seats are great)

I don't know that I'd trust Tirerack to be 100% on top of this situation.

From nissandriven.com...

Touring:
- 17" x 7.5" 7-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels (18" x 8" 6-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels standard with 6-speed manual transmission)
- P225/50WR17 front & P235/50WR17 rear high performance tires (225/45WR18 tires standard with 6-speed manual transmission)

Performance:
- 18" x 7.5" (front) / 8.0" (rear) 6-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels
- P225/45WR18 front & P245/45WR18 rear high performance tires
This begs the question... WHY are they putting 225s on the 6MT instead of 245s when they are putting 235s on the 5AT? If you put a 225 on a 7.5" wheel, you would think that putting that same 225 on an 8" wheel is not the right thing to be doing, i.e., the rim is a bit wide for that tire. My fear is that the 225 on a 8" rim will create a much stiffer sidewall which is a BAD thing considering the RE-040s history with sidewall bubbling.

Why is the Touring 6MT all of a sudden becoming the cushy, ***** car that everyone (Performance, Track buyers) has been saying it would be for 7 months now? A 225 width tire is not that wide, especially for a sports car.

Thanks.

There must be some reason why they are putting a 225 on a MT and a 235 on a AT. But what ever the reason, it seems crazy.

Looks like they just added a few more hundred dollars to what I am going to have to pay on this car. I can't see having that small of a tire all the way around for a car this powerful and for a more expensive trim level.

I will most likely complain a little to the dealer to see if he will pass it up the chain. Maybe there will be enough complaints about this that Nissan will go back to what makes sense on this.

Yes, a staggered setup will usually improve handling and you will want bigger tires on a RWD car for the traction.

let me disclaim that this post is more of a ribbing, than anything else...but i still think it holds some truth to nissan marketing...

maybe i am out of my mind, but this is what i read into it...

nissan see people who order touring as "Soft" for not ordering track models...

so, they figure these people dont want the hassle of "non-rotating" tires...

now, if this is the case, they could not put 235 or 245 in the front, therefore, you get 225 all the way around.. its the lowest common denominator.

now, enjoy your leather and bose on those 225's, while us carbon-cloth'd tracks enjoy traction..

i kid, i kid conan....

Yeah, I took it as ribbing more than anything. Unfortunately, my backside enjoys leather too much and I wanted factory. I do enjoy traction nonetheless and I have just lost a little more if this will be true setup. Don't worry though, I know Frisco gets a little chilly and that your seats will stay cold an extra 30secs to mine...j/k. Boy I hope Nissan didn't screw up their research in who is buying which trim level!

I checked out the nissan canada site and they have the performance model listed with the 245's in the rear. The performance model in Canada is the same as the touring 6 spd mt model in the US. Maybe they havent changes the numbers yet?? Personally the major reason i want the 245's in the rear is because it gives the Z a more aggressive stance when viewed from behind.

I cant understand why nissan would do this . . . plus the whole touring = soft thing is b.s. --name a high end sports car that doesn't come with leather standard (I'll save every1 the trouble . . .none). Hopefully ZISME can clarify the situation . . . it would be completely illogical if the touring AT has 225's front/235's rear and the touring mt has 225's all-around . . . furthermore, someone made the point that nissan might be thinking that touring buyers prefer the ability to rotate . . . if that's the case, then nissan shouldn't have put the RE040's on . . . with a treadwear rating of 140, they'll prob. make it only 10-12k mi.

This could also be a mistake on the website. The "I Want One" site is currently down.

PS

Do we really need 3 threads to discuss this topic?
