Yah... Base is spartan... same engine and no frills. So it is gonna be light.
When you go with a grand touring, you're getting luxury features that are gonna weigh you down a bit. You gotta realize that walking into it. Don't think it's much of a surprise that a base model is gonna be a little faster than a grand touring (0.3 second difference 0-60 or sumpin' like).
You want a spartan sports car? ...go with a Lotus, heh. Those things are stripped to the bone. Very freakin' light. I'd take a GT 350z over a Lotus Elise though... more comfortable ride (guess I'm kinda into creature comforts).
I am very happy with my GT. It's still not as heavy as the roadster... and if you wanna beef up the torque... there's lottsa mods you can do.
I'ma keep mine stock for a while though... yah.

When I first bought my 06' it felt slow as well, but when I installed my test pipes, it had much better throttle response.
I suggest you install some test pipes. The 06's feel sluggish, but are quite fast.

Funny you mentioned the weight thing and it being slower. I drove my buddies 06 and it felt less torquey, slower. i ran him with my current mods and he has nismo exhaust, spacer and popcharger but at the very top of fourth he caught up. then pulled a fender on me till we shut em down. Now when i had test pipes installed, it was no contest........dont let that revup full you!!

The 03-05 cars feel like the power is flat across the rpms, but my 06 feels pretty slugglish, untill about 4k, and at 5k it really pulls hard. I guess sort of like driving a honda with v-tech, but not really. My car is stock btw.

Just finish your break in.

BTW do you have any pics of your car?? I live in la crescenta, and I was just wondering if I have seen it around.
I have custom test pipes, and a greddy evo2 exhaust. These are the before pics, when I hadn't blacked out my headlights yet. https://my350z.com/forum/media-share/204539-pics-of-my-ppw-56k-no-no.html.
