The weight and the loss of TQ would be the difference.

The 2006 gain more weight, but not only that, I believe the grand touring is also the heaveist of the coupe trim(3,404 pounds). You basically gained about 200 pounds from the 2005 to 2006.

Well, we assume that he probably bought his 2005 350Z new at the time too since it is only 2006 right now. So we assume he would know how it felt in the broken in stage of the 2005 to compare it to the broken in stage of the 2006.

Gawd, I hope that made sense, LOL!

The base curb weight is approximately 200 lbs less than the Grand Touring I believe, so thats probably the majority of the difference. Losing that little bit of torque isn't as noticable.

I had the same problem going from my '03 enth to an '05 touring. My old Z was definitely quicker, but I'm chalking that up to 17's versus 18's.

The higher the model you get the more weight you typically get except for certain models/years. When you add premium sound systems and navi it slowly adds up. Also, consider the fact that you now have Vehical Dynamic Control and Traction Control which will try to keep your wheels from spinning as much as possible. That can slow a take off "feeling" down because it cuts power to the spinning wheels.

LOL, yeah, are you sure you turned off the traction control? Us base model guys are completely oblivious to that term. I still don't know how to turn it off because I don't need to know.
My butt dyno hasn't been calibrated or SAE corrected, but it probably has the accuracy of +/- 30 hp. So saying that an 06 Grand Touring feels slower than a base model 05 (and then seeing your mods list and 1/4 time), I conclude that you cannot have an honest opinion about this.
