Good point for the Z. But in BMW's or Mercedes I think the headrest is angled forward so you can actually rest your head on it comfortably.

This is a funny thread! I was just thinking the same thing two days ago while conditioning the seats' leather that I never ever rest my head against the head rest. Being tall, if I set the back straight-enough to be able to rest my head, my legs hit the steering wheel...

But what's funnier is, I have taken 4-5 hour trips in the Z and even with my long neck, I haven't felt fatigued. So I guess the designers did their job after all...

It is for both purposes. An ideal seat is one that allows the driver to maintain full contact with it from head to knees while driving, so he/she can be fully rested. That's what the 10+ point adjustable seats are designed to do. I guess since sports cars are not meant for touring anyway, keeping the driver in the seat (bolsters) is more important than supporting all of him/her!

I never actually rest my head on the headrest....
