Default Part of me wishes that Nissan would discontinue the Z after the Z33

Let me preface by saying that it's not going to happen, the Z is way too popular to pull the plug on and there will be a Z34.

On the other hand, it would be nice if it could be like the Z32 in that it went 6-7 years being the sole iteration of the Z and you didn't have to worry about an update that obsoletes your car and lowers the resale value or make you feel like you need to get the latest greatest version.

So what I'm trying to say is that it would be nice if the Z33 could stand alone for a few years and become a classic instead of an immediate dinosaur once the Z34 comes out.

Well in a way it is pretty unique and holds value as the Z33 was the model that brought the Z back from the dead

What happened to the 300ZX when the 350Z was introduced? Did 300ZX owners throw up their hands and take their cars to the junk yard?

Only a guess but I'd venture that many of them stepped up to the Z33 or the ones who didn't longed to or maybe even became sad knowing that their car had just been replaced.

I agree, I also cannot beleive how much money the 240's are bringing now. I was hopin this would happen with our Z's in a few years, but I doubt it.

I don't think they intentionally stop producing Z's after the Z32 as a means to give us better resale value. I believe Nissan was starting to have trouble at that time and had to cut their losses.

The only reason why we have the Z33 is because Nissan was saved and was bouncing back with a new strategy.

Not only financial problems but the Z32 was getting ridiculously overpriced ($40,000+ for the TT), partly because of the strong yen at the time.

Sure, Nissan didn't cut the Z32 on purpose but again, part of me feels like it would be nice if they felt like a new Z would intrude upon the GT-R and retire it for a while to give the GT-R the sole spotlight. Again, this isn't going to happen.

I just don't understand that mindset. I've tried. Really I gave it an effort. But I just don't understand.

you obviously have not been to an all Z forum before haha...check out ZCAR.com. Those guys will defend their older Z's to the death. Sure a few of them have bought 350's, alot keep their older Z's in addition, but you would get blasted out of the forum if you said the above quote any where near them. Trust me they love their cars. it really is a completely different vehicle.

I post there much more than i do here, one of the reasons is because its a smaller forum, the other is because i like to read all the Z forums. Hang around there enough and you'll start wanting an older Z too, id love to have a 240, beautiful cars they are.

I have a Z31 I am restoring, I have owned 1 of each 2 series Z.......Yes resale value is something to think about but I feel with a Z it's not about money. But if you must concern yourself with re-sale or rareity then imagine your Z33 twenty years from now in the shape it is in now......$$$$$$

you know I still look at a nice 993 and think it's a sweet car, the 996 and the 997 surely didn't take much away from it. Just a thought for comparison.

I don't consider the Z33 a solid replacement to the Z32. (The Z33 is more inspired by the 240z's of the 70's.)

Both Z33 and Z32 platforms are almost completely different. I know folks that distinguish the "Z" and "ZX" badges even though they're all "Fairlady's".

The next 'z34' will probably be a re-hash of the same Z33 chassis with a better motor. It might urk a few current owners but newer doesn't mean it will always be better. Look at the 240z moving on to the 280z...

Agreed. The local guys here still love their Z32's and talk about them the same way Acura Integra guys still talk about their cars even though the RSX has been long out.

It's already happened. I already feel my '06 Z is inferior to the '07 Z because of the new engine. However, it is not a Z34 but... same idea.

That being said, there will always be something better out there. Nothing to worry about. I am happy with my Z and will own it until the wheels fall off. Unless, of course, I can trade it in for a Z34 or a GT-R :-). Other than that, I love it.

This is like the sport like crowd when something new comes out you gotta have it. The HR will be a great motor but not so great to want to switch. My dad had a Z32 and it was a nice car and still would be regardless of the Z33. This is the greatest thing about sports cars each year each model is it's own car and nothing will take away it's appeal.

Totally agree here.

It's not like a luxury car where most of it's purpose is for status and feels 'dated' after it gets revamped. (Which in the case of luxury cars: happens frequently)
