My wife took the car to get a new power window motor, etc... put in the car at the local dealsership. She was there for less than two hours so the work took less than an hour and a half. Anywas the total bill was $470! Considering they only had the car for under two hours that sounds high to me. Anyone else have this work done? Is this average price? And did they take advantage because it wasn't a man taking the car in? Thanks for any info. and i'll be doing the passenger side when it need's done!

I found on a site somewhere the 350z window motors are weak so they wear out fast. The same site also sold higher power window motors.
what was the part cost?

Dont feel bad, I got charged 100 dollars for absolutley nothing! Me and a friend took my S14 about a year ago in to the local Nissan dealer for them to look at it because of a OBDII issue they had it for like 2 days then they gave it back and said it was fixed.. It wasnt.. they charged me for looking at it.. Then about 1 month ago my friend got a job there and one of the Techs told him that they didnt even touch my car.. The guy who was doing that as fired..

Whats the dealers labor rate there? The motor runs about 200 with tax for the Z. If it was like my dealerships labor rate, $82 a hour Then yes they charged you for 2 hours or there abouts. 2.5 hours to install a window motor is high. At the absolute worst if the door is being a pita to come apart it would take me about a hour and a half to 2 hours to get the door apart and back together with the motor timed and ready to go.

Fast replies!!! They charged 180 for labor and the rest was parts and tax. I'll probably call later in the week and see if it's the price they quote me. The car was probably in the bay for even 1.5 hours!

I'd personally say 56cbr600rr, that yes, as a female anything to do with cars majority of women still get ripped off. Make sure your wife learns the trick of being feisty with them, they'll soon learn not to muck her around and if anything they all fall over themselves to help and give discounts.
But yes, it's still very much a male bastion, and irrespective of what your mechanical knowledge is as a female you get very little respective in the automotive industry, therefore rip you off, if they get the opportunity.
Always a good habit to find out a rough estimation of time and cost etc. Then you can have them up if it's anything different.
Go give 'em a really hard time!!! Let us know how you get along.

Dealerships charge book time....
Another words, if the Nissan Manual says it takes 3 hrs to fix it thats what they charge you even if it only actually took them 2 hrs to fix it.. It's a standard practice among dealerships.. I know the Mercedes dealership that I take my mom's car for maintance has a sign by the service department stating this...

you guys got to remember one thing, every shop has there own labor rate which is in line with the competition in the area.that said.......as mentioned above, all shops go by what is called book time.if it calls for 3 hours...well tech (a) can do it in 1 hour you are still getting charged 3 hours,if tech (b) takes 4 hours your getting charged 3 hours.do you get it yet.the people who arent in the automotive field really have no idea how hard some of these cars are to friggen work on nowadays.this isnt a 72 chevy anymore.

To further this point if you still dont quite understand search for a Olds 442 or Pontiac GTO, muscle cars of years gone by, look at the pics of the under hood, whats there? Just the engine, a couple of accessories on it(power steering, alternator, a/c) and thats it. The only electronics on the engine is the ignition system.
Now look under the hood of your Z, that engine is hugged by a wiring harness in almost ever location possible for different and varying potentiometers, magnetic pickups, hall effect sensors, thermistors, CAN bus lines, and many other things.
There not as simple to work on as they used to be.

not to hijack this thead but this has to do with window motors as well. When youopen your doors your windows automaticaly go down about 1/2 inch right. After the first winter here in VA, my windows only go down about 1/16 of an inch now. Sometimes they catch on the door sill top. I have to push them down before i close my door. freakin anoying
