Not sure about where you live, but in my jurisdiction, the officer must have a meter to test the tint before a cite can be issued.
Live in CT. I have middle class neighborhoods and "projects" all within the same 20 miles. I am guessing that it just isn't worth it to pull over someone with dark tints, and that being the only thing they are doing wrong. If I were a cop, I would have to have a REALLY bad day to pull over someone for that, unless they were very low, 5-10%. Even then I probably wouldn't bother if they weren't already in the wrong. Borderline I wouldn't be worrying about.

i'm gonna screw with you and you will get tickets for something or even worse.

Shocking!!! !!

Cops here in VA pull people over for no reason all the time. I hate those **** heads. I know there are good cops out there, I just hate the ones that think that they are god.

Of course you can back up your claim??? BTW, did you read the context of my post? Of course you didn't. Play games with me and I can return the favor. It's rarely that someone does not do something or not have something wrong with their vehicle. I would be a busy person If I wrote for everything. But for people like those suggesting little tricks like the one listed earlier, I would make the time.

First off, I have 5% all around, so I am obviously not anti-tint. But the point of tint laws is more or less to protect the lives of police officers. Taken in the light of a life and death matter to law enforcement, it is a fairly serious subject. So yeah, I'd say the fine does fit the crime. ... my .02

i've had a few tint tickets...

I fought all my tickets, and if the cop doesn't show up, the whole thing gets dismissed.

as a back up plan, I had a doctor's note stating that I had conjunctivitis, and that I need the tint. (but i don't so thats kinda messed up)

A big +1 on dark tint being a safety issue for officers. Anyone who thinks otherwise should picture approaching a sedan with 5% all around and windows rolled up. If you think that's child's play, you are a damn liar and I would like to see you prove otherwise.

Another +1 on refraining from making dumb moves inside the cabin when pulled over. I have 18% on my front windows and 5% on the hatch. I got two speeding tickets on two consecutive days in August (just my luck ). Rolled both windows down right away to make it easier for the officer to see inside (bright sunny days). The first officer didn't ask for registration and insurance but the second did. I asked for his permission to reach into the glove compartment to get it since only Z owners know that Zs don't have it in the conventional spot. Every officer would expect the worst (and act accordingly) if your hand makes a sudden dive behind the passenger seat. Officer was so impressed with the way I was handling myself (his words) that he reduced the ticket to 9 over instead of 15 and was laughing and joking the whole time about recent movies (i was returning from the theater) and his days in the Navy. Not to mention he said he would overlook my out of state license and unsigned registration card (both are ticketable offenses here).

By the way, neither officer even mentioned my tint or the missing front plate.

So always be polite and respectful. LE officers are just like you and me; it's just another day on the job for them. They won't want it to be anymore unnecessarily troublesome than you or I do while sitting in our comfortable, temp-controlled offices.

lol...

but ya, my 98 accord has like 15% tint and i got pulled over for it, it was a 75 dollar ticket, which isnt too bad, but I didnt want the hassle of being pulled over again, its a pain in the ***, i just took the tint off.

Im gonna get simple 35% on the 350 eventually. nothing too dark.

It's illegal to drive in your state with an out of state license?

The officer should have a tint meter but for 5% its just that obvious. Personally I don't write citations for tint because in MD it is just a fine...I write repair orders so it has to be taken off. No tint meter needed for that, its up to the car owner to have a MSP officer measure it within 10 days. I don't write many tint violations though unless I can't see through it at all, it's mirrored (illegal in MD no matter how dark) or the guy is being a total tool. Being nice can get you a warning, but just the other day being a jerk and lying to me repeatedly turned what started as a warning into 4 tickets (2 of which were jailable). If I wasn't off duty and headed home it would have been 6-8 tickets and an impounded car...and probably a trip to jail.

Only if you've lived in the new state past a certain period of time (usually 60 days) without switching over.

It's illegal to continue to drive with an out of state license after 90 days of permanently moving to Colorado OR finding emplyment here, whichever comes first. I moved here over two years ago but never bothered to exchange my Wisconsin license for a Colorado one although I knew I will get nailed for it whenever I get pulled over.

In fact that is the residency law in most states.

Real smart driving a vehicle with ony 10% full windshield tint. Wish I could drive around looking cool without caring about causing accidents due to crappy frontal visibility.

Dark tint obviously puts a cops LIFE a risk. That's why it's illegal! I've been pulled over multiple times over the years for and ended up with tint tickets. I agree it's frustrating, and it sucks to have to replace the tint. But getting pissed at the the cop is ignorant!!! Those guys have one of the most thankless jobs out there. Anyway- that's my opinion.

IF YOU CAN'T DO THE TIME- DON'T DO THE CRIME

P.S. If there are any "COPS" out there Thanks for what you do!
