I personally like going 150+ on 4 wheels, and driving in the rain and not getting wet personally!!!

Best Buy job and a 350Z?? Hmmm?? Retail jobs typically pay pretty crappy...But, if you get to know the "shady dude" who works in the receiving dept. in the back of the store!

Maybe...just maybe, ya'll could ****** some of those Big money Plasma TV's and sell 'em in the seedy parts of town!

THEN...you'll be able to afford that Z!!

Not to rain on your parade, but you cannot afford it, no matter what way you look at it. They *say* you aren't supposed to buy a car that cost more than 1/3 of your salary - I of course broke that rule, but you aren't even close. You are buying a car that is 3x your salary -- bad call.

You can get a 240sx for cheap, fix it up, and the mod the hell out if it and have money left over, and you can beat Zs. And, you will actually be able to eat somewhere besides your house every night, have a social life, and take the ladies out on some dates. Don't buy the Z. And don't buy a bike because you will kill yourself.

If he has few other expenses (and plans for it to be that way for the next few years) he can afford it. I stopped letting people tell me what I was "supposed" to do in highschool...

As far as bike vs. car, you'll get a lot more utilitily and usability out of the car. I can tell you that bikes are a blast to have but sweating your *** off, dodging rain clouds, and avoiding old ladies on the road is a b!tch. Not that it isn't worth it, but you should get the car first, and then work on the bike. You shouldn't "force" yourself to rely on a bike as your only mode of transportation. Not to mention, insurance on a bike for you right now will rape you unless you are on the parent's insurance and it will still be sky high and not worth it.

Really though, for a first car for someone that just got their license, neither the Z nor the bike is a great idea and you should consider a used car. If you do go with one of them, be careful and make smart decisions on the road.

350Z

1. it doesn't need a kickstand it won't tip over like a bike.
2. You don't have to dress up like a power ranger every time you want to go for a drive.
3. Although its not practical, its more practical than a bike.

Bike

1. cheaper for gas
2. more fun in the twisities
3. easier to deal with parking at a school campus

I've had my license since February of this year. From that point until now, I have been driving my mom's, dad's, and sister's car (Toyota Highlanger, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla).

According to my mom, whatever I can save up and put down towards a car, they'll match it and add $1,000 and that's all the help I'm getting from them. There also going to be paying for my insurance, but I'm going to help a little big with the house bills to balance it out.

Ever since last year, I've been wanting a 350z. I know I'm young and blah blah blah, but I wanted it nevertheless. Now, the opportunity has came that I can afford to pay for it. I'm going to save around $3,000 to put down. So that means with my parents help, I'm going to have $7,000 to put down towads a 350z.

The job will pay me anywhere from $880-$1056 (tax not included). So I can manage montly payments for a 350z with no problem, at least until I transfer to UCSB, UCSD, or wherever.

However, I can really avoid paying paymenst altogether and just get a bike. The problem with a bike is, my parents don't want me to get one. They completely dispise bikes and would probably rather buy me a Ferrari. However, with a bike, I can pay for it at once and own it without the worries of payments. I'll have to pay for the insurance all on my own and I'd get dirty looks from my parents.

So what do you guys suggest? 350z or bike?
just get both man!! nothing better than waking up in the morning walking out to the garage and trying to figure out whether you want to take ur Z out today or ride the bike!

i love the challenge everyday....

So basically your payments are going to be killing you.

shoot my parents spent a whole 1,300 bucks on my supra which i ended up modding the hell out of and am now selling...

must be nice to get a sick ride for ur first car man! take care of it!

It sounds like you can afford the car jus barely, If you really want the Z you should

-Suffer for 12 - 18 mos. using that corolla.

-Save up for a big DP to lower your payments.

-Look for an used 06/07 at that time (which should still have warranty and be good as brand new).

No use paying 30k and taking a straight up % hit when u drive it off the dealer's lot.

Use practicality, buying a 30k should not be impulse, that's a 2 - 3 year commitment to have to make payments coupled w/ insurance and additional costs.

Otherwise if you need a new car jus for the sake of having something new/different look for something cheaper.

Or.... get the bike and buy off your sister's corolla.... a bike can get you killed... then again you simply die choking on food.. jus be careful and be aware of the risks.

I have both and love both but use them for different purposes. The Z is the daily driver (a fun one at that).

The bike is purely for the weekend and the track.

My sugestion is not to get the Z, get somthing cheaper like a civic or an eclipse and then get a starter bike like a Ninja 500.

When you get older then go bigger.

I'm lucky enough to have both and I'm glad I have the Z as I don't think I'd like to ride the bike every day.

More for weekend enjoyment occasionally.

I have both as well and enjoy the hell out of both of them. I can personally attest to working at BBY and it is not everything it is cracked out to be. I did not read everything on here but I didnt see anyone mention the temptation to spend ones money on their discount. I do not know if you are aware but you only pay 5% above what BBY pays for items and that can save you a ton on certain things. Oh not to mention BBY is SERIOUSLY cracking down on people and hold on you do realize you are being hired on during holiday season? They will very likely let you go unless you sell your @$$ off during the holidays! As much as I hate to say it because I was exactly like you in high school I would not get the Z. Its not worth being locked into a high payment vehicle in high school there are so many other sweet things to worry about. Besides the Z will always be her, hell you could save up and by the time you were done with school smack some cash down for the whole car. I wish i would have done that

Bike or car is gonna cost the same
You pay more for the car but your ins on the bike will be outrageous. $3K every 6 months.

I had both, I sold the bike. (BTW my bike ins was $160 every 6 months, because I had a grand am on the policy as well.)

If I was you, first off tell your parents your gonna buy used, every car I buy from here on out I will buy used, I wish I did that with my Z. Used dosent mean 20K miles, You can find good deals with used cars with 3-5K miles cause people just dont want it anymore. And a "NEW" used car is 20% off right there.

I would get a reg ol accord. If you really want a sporty car I would get a RSX or Celica. The 350z is a nice car and it will still be around when you get a better job than best buy. Go to school, graduate, get a career and then get yourself a new 350z or a GTR.

I bought my 350z when I was 21, I love the car but wish I had waited. Ins is a killer ($900 every 6 months) luckily I have a clean record. Plus when you go to school how are you going to afford books, food, rent, utilities, women, booze, tuition when 90% of your income goes to your car?

Whatever you decide I must say the bike was the best experience in my life. I want another, actually Im trying to become CHP and yes I wanna be a motor cop. Its completely different and it cannot be described. Just realize that with a bike first you NEED to take the MSF course and have complete self discipline. If you lose your discipline for even one second on a bike you will kill yourself, the most difficult part of this is controlling your right wrist.
