350z or Bike?
I just got hired at Best Buy, so I can finally beable to purchase my own car.
I've had my license since February of this year. From that point until now, I have been driving my mom's, dad's, and sister's car (Toyota Highlanger, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla).
According to my mom, whatever I can save up and put down towards a car, they'll match it and add $1,000 and that's all the help I'm getting from them. There also going to be paying for my insurance, but I'm going to help a little big with the house bills to balance it out.
Ever since last year, I've been wanting a 350z. I know I'm young and blah blah blah, but I wanted it nevertheless. Now, the opportunity has came that I can afford to pay for it. I'm going to save around $3,000 to put down. So that means with my parents help, I'm going to have $7,000 to put down towads a 350z.
The job will pay me anywhere from $880-$1056 (tax not included). So I can manage montly payments for a 350z with no problem, at least until I transfer to UCSB, UCSD, or wherever.
However, I can really avoid paying paymenst altogether and just get a bike. The problem with a bike is, my parents don't want me to get one. They completely dispise bikes and would probably rather buy me a Ferrari. However, with a bike, I can pay for it at once and own it without the worries of payments. I'll have to pay for the insurance all on my own and I'd get dirty looks from my parents.
So what do you guys suggest? 350z or bike?

I really dont think you can afford a Z but if you think you can go for it. Atleast the Z wont kill you as easily as a bike. And unless your parents are going to help you out the maintainance is gonna empty your wallet.

I got my Z after a motorcycle accident in June. I shattered my right hand and fractured four vertabrae. And that was with full gear, including a Dainese back protector, lowsiding at moderate speed. Something to think about...

You parents gonna pay for the insurace too? Thats another 300 a month easy.
I'm not trying to deter you from getting the car I'm just letting you know somethings most people forget about when buying their first car.

Exactly how much of that Best Buy money do you think you will get after tax? I am guessing that your car loan is gonna be about 20k (Base model, 8% CA sales tax, tag, license...etc). At 7% interest, you are looking at $450 a month.
Yeah, on paper you can "afford" it. But in reality? No. Unless you plan on garaging it never driving the damn thing, you are going to need gas. How much is a gallon of premium in CA? How much will you be driving? How aggressively will you do driving it? A teenager with a hot car is gonna be driving everyone everywhere, fast! Be prepare to cough another $200+ a month on gas.
What about going out with friends? Going out on dates? Buying that game for the X360? And just life in general. You get my point.
I am not raining on your parade, yah ok I kinda am. I know living beyond your means is the American way. But buying $30k car on a $12k salary is boarderline retarded. Frankly, I'm surprised your parents are even going along with this. Unless you haven't told them about the Z. Pay your dues and buy a cobolt like every other 16-year-old.

Yeah just because you can afford a car, doesn't mean its really feasible... I'm actually going to have to sell my Z since I've decided I'm going to go ahead and persue my masters... When I bought it I was making enough working and going to school to cover my bills, but I'm going to be cutting back how much I'm working and living paycheck to paycheck sucks
It sucks, but hopefully a couple years without will payoff. Me personally I'm going to just go pay cash for a decent mid-size truck, and then find a bike in about a year

So you think making 880-1200/mo will be able to pay for a Z and the $150-200 month on gas that it will cost? Also you think your ready to ride a bike after only having your lisence for a few months? Thats such a bad idea. Where is the choice for neither?
wow, i guess i should have read your post all the way through.....althoug you will make enough(barely) to pay for the car and insurance, the question you have to ask yourself is, how are you going to afford to go out? also, how are you gonna get a loan if you have only had the the job less than a year? most places wont finance you unless you ahve been with the employer for over a year....
in all honesty you are better off finding a car or truck where your payments are no more than 300 so you can afford the insurance and have a life at the same time..... just my 2 cents....

car $26000 out the door, you put 10% down and finance the rest for 72mo <--bad idea but for arguement sake. Interest rate 08%
Carpayment = $410mo
Insurance = $300mo *guess* 16yr old male, with a "high risk vehicle", full coverage.
Gas = $200 mo
$910/mo on your car... plus maintenance. Example with 18" wheels, I just spent $450 on two new tires, ect. ect.
