When I first sat in the Z, my first reaction was also, "Why is the grab handle missing on this side?". The lack of symmetry threw me off. Then I realized that it is only for the purpose of symmetry that there would be a handle on both sides; the driver is already holding on to the wheel and has no need for a grab handle. When I realized that Nissan engineers were thinking outside of the box on this one, and throwing away the concept of symmetry for its own sake -- valuing function above all else -- I was very pleased. This tiny detail spoke volumes to me about the thinking that went into this car. Throw away the standard, obvious ideas and rethink everything to create something special.

Why is it done that way in the G35? Maybe because of standard, obvious ideas, like the need for symmetry even when it makes no sense?
