Default Which Gear do you launch from?

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping I could get some help from my fellow Z members that drive stick. What gear do you use when you are leaving from a full stop at a light or stop sign when you are making a right turn? I am new to driving manual, and it seems like if I leave from 1st gear I have to shift again very shortly since the revs build very fast as they should. I was just wondering if there is a better way to do it. Or do I just need to get better at driving manual.

Thanks in advance.

if you come to a COMPLETE STOP, then you can go into first and start again.. if you are still moving, even just rolling like 5 miles an hour, stay in second... When its bad weather AKA snow, i sometimes pull away in second to try and keep from spinning... other than that, if im at a full stop, i leave in first...

...if you run into one of those situations where you JUST came to a stop (like it hasnt even done that backward motion thing yet) and the light changes again, its not gonna hurt you to just keep it in second if ur already there and want to just be lazy..

hope that helps. oh and be prepared for the cause these guys like to do it to new stick drivers..

No its not a truck, you put alot of stress on the clutch and gears when you do that.

+1 on the practice, you will get it. I would say leave it in first. When you are better you can still shift into first (while rolling) and have a smoothe transition.

That is correct. It will DEFINITELY cause premature clutch failure.

Please be careful on the 1-2 shift while making a turn froma stop. This is the easiest way to lose the rear end on the Z. I have done it many times and have seen many wrecked cars because of it.

Agree. The motor has a lot of torque, and second gear is suitable for one MPH plus. From a dead stop always first gear.

Some times i dump the clutch in 2nd in a long turn and spin the tires going around it haha. I can also shift gears while going around in circles. 4th gear burnouts FTW, but i need new tires from that.....
