Default 06z louder than 03z?

Well i just got my new 06z mt, and i realized from the inside it is much louder, and makes more of a powerful and aggressive noise. From the inside of the 03, it sounded a lot quieter and sounded like what the z sounds like from the outside. Can anyone agree? or is it just me?

I think its the other way around. The 06's have more sound deadening material that makes it heavier and quieter.

I've been in an 03 and my 06 when both were stock. They sounded different to me. 03 sounded louder to me but sounded different. I think my car sounded more "European" or something (like an M3). It's hard to put into words.

Rev-up motors sound different,, Just a tad bit 'roar' sound to them when you
accelerate and it is pretty noticable when you are in cabin. However, one shouldn't have dramatic difference in sounding if you don't have an aftermarket exaust.

I hope no one gets butthurt but the M3 sounds like crap man I think they could have done a much better job for an exhaust tone. to me it sounds like there is giant be stuck in the exhaust. I love the stock Z exhaust way better than the M3's. NOW, the M5 exhaust... well thats a whole nother story

The 06 is suspose to be quieter on the inside. The engine and exhaust should sound the same outside...same engine. I think the 03 is quiet, that I like to open my window so I can hear that sweet exhaust note. I have a elderly neighbor that walks his dog around the block. He came by one day asking me about the car and how much he loved the look and sound. He asked me to rev it when I drive by because he thought it was the best sounding car he has ever heard.

Did you measure this with some sort of sound level device? What were the readings?

I had a 03 Z and now a 06.

What I do notice is that the "rev-up" engine in the 06 sounds more refined in the upper rev range. My old Z felt buzzy up near redline, but the 06 sounds strong and refined throughout the entire rev range.

Stock sound is tame compared to a Z with headers, test pipes & an after-market dual exhaust system.

Everytime I see your posts I'm reminded that you are an engineer. You always seem to find the science aspect of things that we all miss. Thanks.
