Default Weight Myth

All I read about is how the 2006 is a hog. Car and Driver says the curb weight of a 2003 Z is 3300lbs. Yahoo Cars says the curb weight of a 2006 Z is 3339lbs. So, 39lbs. constitutes hog status? Links:

Flame suit on.

None of the supposed weight increases have ever been proven by members who have had their cars weighed. I could be wrong, but I don't remember a single member saying they were able to confirm the increased poundage themselves.

Default My theory...

1. It's prolly true that the cars are heavier, but then people turn it into urban legend...

2. It makes people with the older cars feel better! Shoot, when the 07's come out and blow away my 06, I'll just bash the 07 cause it's gota be heavier. Right? I mean a 100% increase in power-robbing intake weight. And the beefed-up motor must weigh more. It's got ladder-frame construction and we all know that ladders weigh a ton. So let's just say that it may be faster, but our 06's and below handle better and are the better driver's cars because the new one's are heavier!

Of course Nissan does not help itself when their marketing department tells them to bump power from 297 hp to 300 HP like it's something good; but they don't mention that that higher HP comes at the expense of usable torque throughout the midrange. I hate it when companies have to make these year-over-year marginal "improvements". Take your time making something good and ride it out for a few years...

http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2003/...ons/index.html

1446Kg X 2.2lbs.= 3181.2lbs. 2003 350Z

I think they added sound deadener and some other stuff to the newer Z's. I'll search. Here:

http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2006/...ons/index.html

2006Z= 3340lbs.

3340-3181.2=158.8lbs. difference.

just go out and look at the label on the driver side door, or look in the owner's maual. the weight of the car is there, not some stupid biased car magazine.

I think the weight listed on the door is the Gross Vehicle Weight, ie the weight that you're not supposed to exceed.

For the 1000th time the weight increase is BS. Our Mid-A forum rented MIR for the day and weighed everyone's Z before dragging. The Zs in bold are 2006 models. The first one had some weight reduction (single pipe exhaust, no spare, etc.). The second 2006 "Bob-Silverstone" is stock @ 3230 lbs (his SN here is Silverstone-06). Can we finally put this to rest?

Me = 3125-3/4 tank of gas, no spare, no passenger seat
Ryan-Black G = 3600
Dan (Celica) = 2325
Osix-Mike = 3170 **I told you the 06's werent heavier
Rico(sp?) Nightshade = 3170
Booby Ritz-Rob = 3500
Project Sherv = 3450
Ben-Poopra = 3160
Kirk-Orange Z = 3160
Bob-Silverstone = 3230
Integrity-Charles = 3180
David = 3060 *Lightest Z there
Mike-MDRacer = 3290
Tony-EVO = 3190
Last but not least Brents roadster aka The tank = 3770

Pretty cool we did this guys for those that have dyno'd you can now calculate very accurate power to weight.

Listed @ cars.com

2005 Base model

Curb weight 3,188 lbs.
GVWR 3,815 lbs.

627 lbs difference.

2006 350Z base

Curb weight 3,339 lbs.
GVWR 3,815 lbs.

same GVWRs ... if there was a weight increase then the 2006 Z's GVWR should have increased as well.

GVWR stands for Gross Vehicle Weight Rating It is a measure of capacity. It is NOT determined by vehicle weight ("curb weight"), and vehicle weight is NOT determined by GVWR.

GVWR is the recomended maximum total load that the suspension system is designed for.
