I'm getting a wrx on the side next spring. There's no way I can just drop the Z. Impossible. Even for an EVO.

Yea, the AWD Turbo craze is pretty tempting, (hence the wrx), but %99 of the time you are not WOT in snow, but rather in a parking lot with tons of people who are not staring at your car for looks, rather wondering why your wing is so huge.

i say dont even bother with the track. just get the base model and just add mods. its cheaper so you'll have more mods to buy. but it depends if u want AWD for the winter. i see that u drive in nyc. i love driving in the snow so i dont really care. i have the base model with single turbo. im pushing almost 400WHP. i spent around 10k on my car on mods and got the car for 22900. but that was back then. u'll probably find it for cheaper. depends on which year you want too. but i havent drove in the snow yet. cuz i just got my turbo. but we'll see wat happens this year. AWD is fun but a Z is nuts with turbo. GL on the choice you make. in the pic the blue sti is my boys. his car is nice. i was crusin with SQC in bear mt. if only i had both the lines i would done better. but AWD is better in 1 line.

Thanks for the info/advice, guys.
I actually don't drive the STi in the winter.. haha
I have a beater that I put on the road for the winter because I don't want the STi to either get smacked up by someone who can't drive or have it get covered with all the salt they use on the roads.

I figured the "track" edition Z was what I should get, but now it sounds like I shouldn't bother because I'm going to want something used and 2005 is too new still.
I'd basically be looking to do what someone else mentioned already, which is just to get a used Z for relatively cheap and then just spend the money I saved modding it.

So maybe an 03 or 04 "base" model is what I'd be looking for?

My GF has an 04 STi w/ a full Invidia TB, S/R intake, Cobb pro-tune, exedy stage 1, and some suspension work. It's a fast car, but the power is brutal and not smooth like my Z. I just got a 06 Base and added an AAM intake and plenum spacer and it pulls pretty decently through the gears all the way up to redline. I feel as though I can take corners at the same speeds with the Z when it's not that cold and the tires are warmed up. The new Z also has 300HP/260TQ stock from the factory so I think it will be a good choice. I've owned an 03 EVO and with driving the EVO, STi, and Z, I can honestly say that I'm happy with my new car. Not looking back....

FYI, you can get a Jim Wolf Twin Turbo installed at performance motorsports for under $10k

also, if you do happen to get a Z, http://www.tsz33.com

well if ur tryin to save money go for 03-04 and turbo it. you would save a lot of money. instead of buyin 05-06. unless u find the 05-06 for under 25 then thats good. but the new models you get more HP then TQ. but that wont matter after turbo.

I've owned alot of Jap turbo cars from the wrx to sti evo 7 and most recently the R34 GTR .. To be honest with you i wasn't impressed with the Subaru much, it's a fast car and handles well but as a daily driven car it just din't do it for me, lacked in comfort, top end and looks .. The R34 was a plain monster, but once again it's not something i wanted to drive to and from work everyday .. Finally decided to buy a 350Z and TT it, hopefully that will be a better every day car and after a while AWD gets boring!!
