The reason I went with the Z instead of an STI or EVO is that I hate waiting for boost and they feel so disconnected from the driver. I love being able to feel what the car is doing rather than feeling like the car is driving me.

This is a tough question, mainly because they are two compltely different cars, with the Z being a rwd NA car and the STI being AWD and turboed. My room mate has an 05 STI, and I have to say, it crushes pretty much anything on the road. I think in the long run I could mod my Z to be faster and much more fun to drive than the STI, but offhand, I would go with the STI when looks are removed.

Why do some people think the STI is some kind of super car?
The STI does not "crush" the Z, especially from a roll. The STI will peter out on the top end long before the Z as well.

Looks aside, I would still take the Z. For one, I hate turbo lag. Also, RWD is better suited to a sports car as well. RWD is a blast when you get your *** end kicking out, doing burnouts, donuts.
Looks aside, I would consider the STI over the Z only if I had to drive in bad weather conditions often.

This would be some really useful info if anyone were talking about any of the listed vehicles.

BTW, the VQ receives awards on a regular basis.

well the coolest thing i ever seen is an STI doin donuts without even moving around just doin donuts in the same spot they got a video of em on you tube.

but i'm sorry just the thought of drivin a Z through the snow scares the shyt outta me. That is where that awd comes in handy. if i lived down south or out west then it would be a non issue but up here snow is a byatch. we ben lucky lately but its not even winter yet. December 21st kicks it off.

n to that idiot talkin about it being 71 degrees yesterday well it wasn't 71 degrees here and besides IT'S STILL DECEMBER!!! we got winter til like MAY. I guarantee that it WILL NOT be 71 degrees in the middle of FEBRUARY!
what an idiot like since it was warm one day winter is over

the way you type is very annoying

so you want to get a STi because it does a cool trick by spinning all four wheels? omg... what is that called... oh yeah awd...

stop nagging / bragging of AWD , we already know what it does and how bad RWD is in the snow... even with that consideration, we still bought the Z

so go get your damn sti and be done with it.

done ranting. sorry reading over the post's. it seems like you made your decision way before the thread . to be honest i wouldnt even want you to drive a Z. DONE

Mmmm... I do not know if I like this comment of yours here... you should come over to my office some day so you can see me arrive and get ridiculed by some 'better than thou' guys... yeah right!

Mercedes, BMW, Audi? A dime a dozen down here, no one really cares too much about them. My car receives much more 'eye care' than many of them together

Anyway I love my car, but I am not blinded to the qualities of one or another model. You obviously want an STi, so go for it and be done with it. I personally like the STi and I think I will get one as a second car sometime in the future.

I thought he was seriously considering the Z, but after reading his response to my post, I believe you're right. He seems pretty damn set on the STI.
Useless thread I guess.

I work as a business professional in the same office as all the executives. Two of them happen to own Z's. Many comment on my Z and how great it looks.
Now the STI....none on the lot. Zero, nada, zilch. I would be embarassed parking an STI among all the sweet cars there. Seriously embarassed, no BS.
Not everyone in the business world drives the cars you mentioned in your post either. When you grow up and get a big boy job you can see all for yourslef.
Sorry for the sarcasm, but after reading several of your posts it's obvious you're an STI fanboy thru and thru. Why did you even bother with this thread? Unless you just wanted to stir **** up?

I wonder what engine Subaru puts in the STI.... ...(hint: it has 2.5 liters)

I know the VQ wins awards. I am just proving to another individual that the Subby has some as well.

Why are we comparing a sports car to an economy sedan that needs factory add-ons to make it fast. Two completely different vehicles IMO. Track car vs. rally car?

Throwing rocks, but living in a glass house^.

Yes, they are two completely different vehicles. However, you're saying the STi is an "economy sedan" that needs factory add-ons? You may be confusing the STi with the Impreza, if you're throwing out the economy sedan statement. Yes, the Impreza is a economy sedan. And if you're saying any car has got factory add-ons, it's the Z. The Z's chassis actually started off as the Maxima/Pathfinder chassis before it became the Z's chassis. Whereas, the Sti chassis was built to be a rally-car chassis first, before utilizing the same chassis for the Impreza. Nissan utilized existing parts off of other vehicles to create the Z, which is the opposite of the STi's engineering scheme.

The 350Z is an absolutley wonderful car! Road & Track voted it the best very best car under $30K for Christ's sake...beating out the WRX Limited and the Evo RS nonetheless, does that make it ligit to knock the STi? I think not. Quit being a fanboy and spreading misinformation. Learn your car first. I think I said this before...to each his own. I've owned both, I liked the STi better. The Z is still an awesome vehicle for it's price though. Big f'n deal.

You're trying to say that...

Nissan took an old, long platform... (Maxima-FWD/Pathfinder-RWD) (These are the same platform, though one is FWD and the other is RWD?)

Made it new and shorter... (350Z-RWD) (Which came out as an '03 model)

Then made it longer? (G35-RWD) (Which came out as an '02 sedan, '03 coupe)

LOL!

(HINT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Nissan_platforms)
