My opinion, looks aside: STi
If you leave an internet forum every time somebody disagrees with you, your membership will be short lived on any site. Man up and grow a pair.

If you bothered reading my posts, I never once mentioned how incredibly ugly the STI is. I based my arguements soley on performance, not looks, so get it straight.
And people who like the Z and/or are loyal to the Z are not trolls on any 350z forum. On the other hand, STI nuthuggers and fanboys such as yourself on a 350z site are nothing but trolls.

And IMO, your opinion is wrong. Looks aside or considering looks into the equation, Z FTW!

Good day again mr. STI. Peace out.
Move along......nothing to see here.......move along please.....

Stock for stock, the Z straight out of the box kicks the STI's *** in any situation with only one exception, a short race from a dig. Why is this so hard for people to grasp?
I've played around with a few STI's on the freeway. The STI goes like hell and does a half decent job of hanging behind the Z. That is until about 90mph+ and that's when the Z starts giving the STI a bloody and merciless beating. It's really quite ugly to witness.

Only read the 1st page but seems to me if you post that question on a Z forum, you already know what the answer will be. I bought the 350 because I had a 300ZX previously, and fell in love with the whole Z thing. My brother showed me the concept pics of the 350Z in Playboy right around this time in 2001 (I think) and I knew I had to have one. I don't need the fastest car on the block, I need the best combo of performance and style for the right price. Mine is only mildly modded - I really like the stock look as is. I appreciate most of the mods I have seen but I wanted a daily driver with some class that I could also have fun with on the track and on the twisties. I'm pretty sure the Z gets a lot more turned heads than any Subie but to each their own. I'm just a Z guy at heart - still want a 300 TT but plan on keeping and daily driving the 350 for quite a while. Of course I am older than most of the rest of you, another thing I like about the 350, as it appeals to a lot of different people for a lot of different reasons.

I guess I cant really say much about the car since I have yet to get behind the wheel of one. But that also means I cant knock it (like others have been). Honestly, people around here are quick to bash other cars; many of which I dont agree with (STI, EVO, RX-8, etc). Most sports cars have their special niche or primary focus. While the EVO/STI types are geared towards maximum traction, communicative suspension, and powerful boost, the Z is jack of all trades. It isnt the fastest, best handling, prettiest, cheapest, or whatever; but it does everything fairly well.

So please, stop with the bashing. It is getting quite old.
Well said.

I always dream about STI, and I test drove it before I got my Z. While I got a Z at the end, I still love the STI. I will get it in a heart beat if I want a 4 door. Personally, looks aside, STI gets my vote. In fact I like the looks, it's just too many people think it is a boy racer......

To the OP, just go get a STI and put this to an end. It is obvious you like the STI better. Go get it, it is a very nice car, I am sure you will be very happy with it.

I own a 03 Z and I drove a STi at a test & tune autocross this weekend. It was set up to the limits for STU. God, it was a thrill. The launch with all 4 wheels pulling is amazing. I went through the slaloms feeling like a go-kart and the boost was a kick in the pants. Where it fell down was in the brakes. They sucked. The owner must have picked a tuner set since they could not stop the car when needed. The guy drove my Z a couple of times and could not believe that I had stock pads.

My 07 is due in this week but I seriously considered looking for a STi for a moment. They are both great cars to drive.

There are so many things that make the STI unique, not sure the wing is one of them. It is factory installed rice though...the only kind of rice that is tolerable.

You will notice a great difference in rear of the vehicle without the wing at high speeds. It won't feel as planted and connected.. It is there for a reason people..

Yeh and they could've achieved equal downforce with a smaller wing too...

But it really is not a high speed type of car, more rally and autocross oriented.

Look aside: stock.. Z
Looks aside: lightly modified.. still a Z, i dont like the crazy power curve on a stock turbo STi
Looks aside (10 grand of mods).. STi. Much better power curve, nice power (in the 500awhp range).
Look aside.. (15-18grand of mods)... the Z.. Better power curve than the STi, better handling, much more power.

But putting looks aside and based strictly on performance, and overall driving which would you choose the Z or STI? i've driven a WRX but not a STI i just kno they accelerate like a bat out of hell. Amazing cars
Alright you just answered the question for yourself...

Obviously you like the STI more so get it...

I have to agree on the wing I don't know why but I think it looks pretty cool...

But yeah get the STI you obviously like it better

having some from the High Horse Power Subaru Side of things.. i must say i do miss some parts of it... But really for me.. the Z is an all around better car for me.. I feel a lot more safe going fast around a corner in the Z then i did in my Subaru.

Both great cars... my subaru was fun right out of highschool... but with my client growth/demand growing and my need for unbelievable speed shrinking, the Z is a perfect fit.

OK OK OK

I'll end this!!!!!

I had an 04 350Z, as you all know a great car. I later supercharged it and it was an even better car. Long story short I sold it and got an STI (2006).

The STI is a great car too. However I have noticed some problems. Cornering on this car SUCKS. Compared to the Z, the Z will kill it off ramps. Also, the lag as everyone is talking about is not that bad. It hits at about 2500k. Boost on the car is between 12 -14 not 16 as everyone says.

Fit and Finish on the STI looks nice(talking about interior). However my STI is silver, the interior is blue and black with red gauges???. I'm still confused by this!! It doesn't really match at all to be honest with you.

In a straight line even at a roll, I believe a stock Z would lose to an STI. This is my opinion but I do believe the STI is faster. Launching from a stop, everyone knows is why people buy the STI, and yes 4k launches are insane (the highest I've gone so far). The torque is rated at 300 pounds, and you really feel it in this car.

As far as looks go, everyone has different tastes. I hate the back spoiler. This is true however. GIRLS - Love the look of the Z a lot more. I have asked a lot of my friends and they all agree (girls) that the Z is a prettier car. However, guys feel as if the STI is a better car and looks better (coming from my friends who don't known 350's).

That is all I can say. I purchased the STI about 3 weeks ago and enjoy it. Overall the feel of the Z was better, but I DO believe the STI is faster on a roll and from a stop (stock).

Take Care Guys

I simply hate the STi with a vengeance.

And since when is comparing a 4 door sedan with a thoroughbred sportscar a real comparison?

It's pretty sad how immature some of these threads become, I mean, come on it's a car!! It's not a test of manhood, and a car should not define your self-identity. It gets you from point A to point B (and preferably a little fun on the way).

With that said, the looks of the STI are not my favorite although I do like the new front end vs the older STI's. I do however appreciate what the car is capable of for the money. Still I think the new 07 Z will be a better car and based on what I've seen it will dyno around 30-30rwhp more than a 03-04 z which should close the gap between to two considerably if not put it ahead. Remember the new Z is rated at 306 under the new SAE ratings and the STI is now rated at 293.

Keep in mind also that there is a price gap between the two vehicles. I wouldn't buy a 35K z it's hard to justify the differences between the 26-27K z vs the 35K z. In fact just today I read a post about someone getting an 06 Z for 26.5 OTD, including tax, title, license, etc. An STI however will run about 35K+ OTD. Your talking an almost 8k difference! You could supercharge the z and still be ahead 2-3K. Hell, you can get a good deal on new base vettes for 38K if you look hard enough, I would spend the little extra for a vette over an STI any day.
