Chicago winter
I'm about to move to Chicago with my Z. Do you guys think my Z will have any chance with a set of good winter tires?
I currently live in Long Island, New York, and I've been driving my Z all-year long for the past 4 years without problems. My friend said if Z is my only car then I should walk to work. What do you guys think?
Thanks for your input.

Chicago winters are not **** any more, it is end of December and it is 45 degrees, I would say save your money, for the three times that you will need winter tires during the winter it is not even worth it.

I'm glad to hear that, LSRoadster. I think I'll still get a set of Blizzak just to be safe, since the Toyo T1S is supposedly worse than the stock Bridgestone in snow.

I cruise on all seasons during the winter. I'm sure dedicated winter tires would be better, but i'm cheap. My Toyo A/S tires are far better than the stock Potenza's anyway, so it's a win-win. The biggest problem with winter tires in Chicago, is the snow doesn't fall often, and it get's cleaned up pretty quickly, so most of the time you are on dry pavement. Cold dry pavement, but dry pavement none the less. The biggest problem I have had driving my Z in Chicago winter is washing and hand waxing the car in near freezing temps.

I live in the suburbs of Chicago so I'm not really sure how substantial my input will be, but I can tell you that it has only snowed once so far... and that the snowfall only got up to be about half a foot. It really doesnt snow much up here anymore. But maybe get snowtires to be on the safe side

First year with the Z in downtown Chicago and while it is not ideal to drive in the snow it is very doable if you know what you can and cant get away with it.
I did buy an 07Audi A4 Quattro just in case

What kind of surgeon are you, and what group are you going to join here? I use contiextremes so i dont have to deal with changing my wheels and have no problems. I live in the heart of chicago and mayor daley does an excellent job of cleaning the streets right away, takes maybe 3-4 hours before almost all streets are clean.

Potholes won't be a problem. I'm used to them already, after all, I live in the pothole central.
I'm currently in the last year of my general surgery residency. I'll be starting my plastic surgery fellowship in July.
I'm glad that it seems like my Z will be drivable in Chicago. I came very close to getting rid of it and getting the anemic 328ix just because of all the misinformation I've heard.
