It's actually not that hard to have a car messed up like that and still retain the clean title.
I'm not going to go into specifics but as long as there are no accident reports filed, and the insurance of the person who caused the crash was not notified, then--as long as he/she keeps everything on the down low--then the car, ON PAPER, is a "clean" car.
If I were you I'd just part it out and try to regain as much of the money you have spent on the car, and just chalk it up as a mistake in life and learn from it. Or sell it as is, that's OK also.
The only NOT COOL thing to do would be to fix it up to be like a normal-looking Z, and then sell it at the market price. This is entirely doable, since the car is clean titled on paper. But it is unethical. What goes around comes around, sooner or later the bad karma will return to you...
Good luck in your decision!

Cool! Good luck dude! And I'm glad that you're pretty upfront about all this.
Seriously guys, cut dsmboost some slack. If he really wanted to scam, he wouldn't be posting this. He's just trying his best to figure his way out of a stalemated business decision

Heh, thanks, door doesn't close properly because of the bent on the door and the fender, doesn't look like a much of a frame damage here to me (can't tell about the A pillar, it looks misalinged, but could be only on pics, the windshield nearly always cracks when the passenger's bag is deployed).
From what it looks for me, this would be an awesome project car for any one who would want to put some money into it (IMHO much better than a salvage title supra or a 300ZX). For 3500$, come on, this is a steal.
And about the repairing, don't know the exact labour cost in the US, but damn, I would go for it, you can buy used parts for cheap if you know where to look for

it is not just the fender skins that have to be replaced...

you are kidding yourself if you think that 7000 will cover this damage... that a pillar alone will cost 5000 to fix... look an insurance company chose not to fix that car for a reason... and that reason is that it is not worth it... i feel bad for you because you got screwed... but you arent going to get anything out of it... let me list out some prices for you
a-pillar... 5000
windsheild ... 1000 for nissan glass 500 for ppg glass
front bumper ... 700
hood... 700
fenders... 2000
airbags... 3000
new front crash bar... 600
new front chassis... 900
total 14,900... that is more than 60 percent of the value of the car... car is/should have been TOTALED
talk to a GOOOD body shop... tell me whether or not that comes close... i am pretty sure it is
but hey... you can always part out the car... your car has a nice rear end...[/QwUOTE]
wow those are high numbers maybe way to high fenders 2000???? try 200 each side plus paint

I can get my hands on both brand new for $140 each. $3000 for air bags? Try $600 (assuming i replace the steering wheel with aftermarket). Like i said before, my friend has discounts to dealer parts and aftermarket parts.
as to expenses for an example... i had a small dent on my g35 that was 2 inches by 4 inches on my drivers side fender... damn valet drivers... anyway that thing cost me 1700 bucks to repair... that small collision pinched my fender inwards and threw the alignment of the hood hinges off so the hood contacted my two fenders when the hood opened... relatively simple repair... but expensive... but what did i care... my insurance deductible was 250
another thing is i dont goto cheap bodyshops... i did the entire cheap body shop thing and the repairs always sucked... that is always a major factor in price as well
but hey man good luck to ya

dsmboost,
This is a retraction and an apology for my earlier post (which was certainly not kind or fair to you) on your thread.
Anyway, this morning I spoke with a neighbor who is an auction buyer/seller. I showed him your pictures of the car and he says the car (as it stands selling in an auction) is worth $4,500. He told me that his estimate is based in the slightly but obvious crumpled front-end of the vehicle and some other things. His point is the vehicle possibly has all sorts of latent and hidden problems (drive-train damage, part fitments, etc.). He pointed out something else: It’s probably not wise to ask or give this type of information on a public forum since it is only a guess with little substantiation that opens everyone to potential liability. So I’ll never mention his name (as he asked me not to do; he only offered an opinion).
Other suggestions (from the car-auction guy):
1) Consider this car an “organ donor.” You could get a lot more than your $3500 investment if you parted-it-out. Of course if you don’t have the means to sell the parts (you don’t have anyone who can work with you on this type of project) you just sell it to someone for $4500 who can then resell the engine, tranny, etc
2) What about someone who races and is looking for an inexpensive car on which to do a full rebuild? That seems to be a mutually beneficial arrangement. Your car looks perfect for this, and you could probably get a lot more than what you paid (certainly much more than $4500 when offered to this market). A racer is going to take this car apart and rebuild it in all sorts of ways. Your car looks like a good and valuable candidate for this market.
…Just some thoughts,

Thanks for the apology spike i appreciate it, as far as the car itself, i'm still not exactly sure what i'm going to do with it.
Also an update on the damage of the car. There is no major frame damage but the frame is twisted a little bit (which is why the door won't close and why the a-pillar seems slanted). My mechanic buddy is gonna pull the frame to straighten it out. Also RICHAZN, it is not a cheap body shop. It's a single-owned business that's been up for 7 years here and has a good rep for body/mechanic work. As far as mechanical problems - there are none. I put the car on the lift and had my mechanic check everything. No leaks, no cracks, no nothing. I even drove the car on the lift in the air since maybe the circulation of oil and movement of parts might show a hidden problem. Even then, no problems.

I didnt get a chance to read through this entire thread, but what did you pay for this?
I had a friend of a friend sell his salvaged title Z for 15K i believe it was listed for 17K with a Turbonetics kit on it.
A rough estimate on value as is, probably 6K if there truely is no frame damage and other major work...Will someone pay that, probably not you should contact a place that rebuilds wrecked cars...I came across one on autotrader.com one time. They would probably buy it from you and then spend the money to fix.
If you spent more then 7K for it you got ****ed!! Sorry to say that but if you think roughly 7K will be need to drop in it to get it running and then there will definately be other issues to consider like alignment, and a bunch of other nickel and dime stuff your going to be up to the 20K mark and you could have bought a used UNWrecked Z for a couple thousand more with a VALUE and warranty.....
Just my .02
Goodluck with the sale, I am sure its frustrating.
PS. You said you wanted to buy a wrecked 300ZXTT didnt you learn your lesson from this wrecked car???
