seems weird that a gas station would be sooooooo angled as to mess up the gas tank reader? Im assuming it would happen to alot of cars then, and also, how unflat could it be? Ive never seen an unflat gas station, so i guess anything is possible? When it happened to me (once in the Z, and once in the G35 4 door) it was on a regular flat station.........? no idea why, but it happened once on both and never again on either.

ok you guys....the reason the pump kicks off is because gas is splashing back and kicking on the overfill preventer, all you have to do when this happens is pull the nozzle out a half of an inch and try again, the nozzle doesn't have to be all the way in the hole for you to pump gas (which is probably what you do when you get mad that it keeps shutting off, you push it in harder), so just keep trying, and pulling the nozzle out a little each time it shuts off ntil it works for you.

I had this problem on my camaro, only a few times though. Someone said to me that if the person before you topped it off too much it would screw up the next guy. I am not sure I believe that, but so far I haven't had an issue with the Z. The only times I had problems on the Camaro were the pumps that had the extra rubber tubing around it to make a seal when filling up, and only here in St. Louis. Once you get out of St. Louis the pumps don't have all that emissions BS and work great.

We have all tried that. It doesn't work. When you get to a gas station where it keeps shutting off, no matter what way you angle it, turn it, or pull it out, it still shuts off.

It has only happened to me twice though.

I do have a fix for this.....

Shut the pump off. Get in your car, go to a different station.

Not so. I even had an attendant helping me and none of the usual "tricks" worked, including that one.

I was shown how to "clear" the line if that had happened. It didn't work either.

Default Can't fill 'er up!

YES! It's happened to me the last two times I've filled up. It's a MAJOR pain in the a**! I tried pumping it slowly, which seems to work better - but, seriously, what's the deal?

A car's source of power is gas - why in the hell is this happening? So, turn the handle upside down and it'll work? I'll try that next time.

Default Gas Probs

Quick question on the Z's gas tank. I just purchased my Z, 40 days ago and have only filled it once (400 miles). My question is, when I am filling, can I continue to fill after the pump clicks off. I know some cars you can and other you can't. On my 02 Maxima SE, you cannot put more than 10 cents in, after the pump clicks or the gas spews out and it is a big $^#@%@ mess.

So my question is, can you put more in the Z after it clicks, if so, how much? I do not dare to to try, thanks for any replies,

It sometimes happens when I pump at Costco. So far, it has done it 50% of the time.

Luckily this has not happened to my Z, but my wife's Murano just had the same problem. It's not only the Z's that are having this problem.

Well my Z started doin this ISH today and thats not cool. I've filled it up plenty of times and it just now started doing it. It did it at an ARCO pump, and seeing as how people are having this problem at different pumps, i'm pretty sure it isn't the pump. I'll try those suggestions but has anyone taken this mess to a dealer yet?

The only times I have had this problem are when the car wasn't PERFECTLY level.

If I park at a gas pump on an incline (either up OR down) the pump always shuts off on me.

I want to go park sideways one day and see if it'll work with the driver side higher or lower...

I learned a new trick, dont stick the pump all the way in. Just dont spill any gas. When you see that its about to fill up, put it all the way in so it will shut off when full, dont wanna overflow.

Cool

In the nine months that I've had my Z this has only happened to me once.
I recall a previous post on this issue here on this forum but I can't remember what they said caused the problem! DUH! I do recall that it was not a Nissan problem though. It had something to do with the pump.

Sorry to bring back an old post, but this was the only one i could find using the search. I have this problem most everytime i fill up... each time so far, it would click off once or twice, then i'd adjust the nozzle angle... or turn it a bit, or even pull it out a bit, then it'd fill up all the way with no problems.

It was a bit annoying, but as long as it only clicked off once or twice on me, it didn't really bug me all that much... But just earlier tonight it clicked off i swear 20 times and i just gave up and left. Has there been a for sure solution yet? Or has anyone made a trip to the dealership to see whats up?

I gave up a few times when this was happening to me. But it got better. I don't think it's clicked off in months. I've always been going to Chevron.

I think a trip to the dealership is about as useless as a trip to, say, taco bell.
