It's all about the tires you use. Rear wheel drive cars can be fantastic in the snow with proper rubber. The VDC and ABS systems in the Z really help too. I drove my Z for two Chicago winters in 03 and 04 and it was great with the Dunlop M3 snows I had...
yup, i got the same tires. I have that tire on my c32, RX-8, and 350Z. There're awesome, worth every dollar!!
don't really have to worry about snow down here, but you guys do have it better in the summer time
Actually it's not so nice in the summer here in Iowa. We get tons of snow that will take forever to melt in the winter and then summer time comes and it's so hot you can't go outside. We have to enjoy those couple of weeks of spring.
^ +1 Blizzaks make the Z drive amazingly in winter here in Iowa. Stock tires however, would get you in a lot of trouble.
I have no experience putting winter tires on the Z, but from personal experience I can say that stock rubber and snow are a BAD mix!!! I've tried it 3 times here in Denver (how bad can 1" of snow be?), all with very poor results.

wow, so only a few weeks of nice weather...there must be something else keeping you there then.

Yeah it's not all about weather for me. I actually like the snow, brings a little variety, but sucks when I really wanna drive. Nice people here too. I'm actually going to the University of Iowa right now, so when I finish I might be headed somewhere else (maybe norcal).
