As a Z owner, I certainly wish (and I think most Z owners wished) that the Z was a little lighter. Therefore, calling the G a "fat pig" is somewhat disingenuous.

And I agree, 150 pounds might not mean much (can probably be offset by driver skill), but depending on the trim of the Z, that differnce can be as much as 300lbs.

If the G35c is coming in at 3505lbs ( http://www.infiniti.com/g_coupe/specifications.html ), some '03 base Z's are weighing in at 3199-3200, and a 300 lb difference IS more significant.

But to each their own. And while I do see an inordinate amount of Z's on the track, I do catch G's there, too, and they kick butt.

 

my roommate has a g35c so we switch cars whenever i need back seats. as far as performance his feels floaty compared to my z. we are both modded with similar mods. the 150 pound argument is legit. 150 pounds is 150 pounds. its like having a passenger in ure car vs someone without.

Like some others have said, it just seemed more stable because of the extra wheelbase, but I would like to edit my original response, the G35 FEELS better to me on the road, being a little smoother overall in the responses, while still having the same amount of grip.

 

LOL! It's good to see that even the Z has it's "competition!" On RX8 forums, the 350Z is the "g35" here and it's on going! I still have the 8, but the Z is much more suited for what "I" want in a car. +1 with what most said...it all boils down to preference.

Before I bought my Z, I test drove a g35 MT. At this point, I have never driven a 350Z. Even compared to my RX8, the g35 felt real slow. I was very disappointed. Afterall, isn't this the "Skyline" in Japan? Going up a mild grade on the freeway, I had to drop it into 3rd to feel any "ooph." The steering was no where near as nible as my 8 and entering corners, though the computer did some breaking on its own, required more break that I wanted. Exiting, I'd try to floor it and the car would not "let" me. Seems, the computer dictates EVERY aspect of this car. That is why it feels so "spongy." The breaking, clutch, acceleration, suspension, steering, etc. EVERYTHING felt so "numb." I guess, rich guys/gals like that...

Then, I finally convinced (convinced as in gave her my RX8) my wife to let me get a 2 seater... One test drive and I was signing papers on my Z. The Z and g35 aren't day and night--but they, fo' damn sho', ain't the same car. Targeted at two different demographics. Me, I think I identify more with the no-compromise "crap-your-pants-torque" cars.

I am thinking about going from my G coupe to a Z. But I am nervouse that I will regret it a couple months down the road.

 

I traded in my Murano for a Z. I gave up the backseat and never looked back. You will not regret getting a Z. BTW, this is my 2nd Z -- 1st one was a '78 280Z. I wished I would have kept it . . .

G35 definitely has a place on the track. At least mine did. It loved to pass TT 300ZX and 350z all day long on the track. People were like amazed my G35 Sedan was passing 350z with drivers that had more experience than me.

 

As a G owner I was thinking about getting a Z but not trading it, just buying it outright.

The problem is that im a college student and when i go back home I need enough space to put my clothes in. The Z is too small for everything to fit. So this wouldnt be a good choice for a college student wanting to take it to school.

I dont know maybe things might change...

i wish i could have BOTH. cuz there have been many times ive wanted/needed a backseat, but there have been times im VERY VERY thankful that i do not have a backseat.

i love the way BOTH cars look because BOTH are sexy. also the weight difference dosent really matter to me cuz if i had a G id probably have some crap in the back or more than one other person in the car so it would be somewhat heavy anyway.

they are basically the same damn car, built off the same platform and use the same motor.

so again.... if anyone wants to give me a g35c for free... or for $3000 dollars, i will gladly take it. PM me

 

LOL! The 350 is one of the continuous cars always being compared to the 8 in Rx8 forums! The 350Z, S2k, Evo, STi, etc. etc. In all honesty, I had a '91 300ZX TT before my 8 and have always loved Nissan's six but I was offered a really good deal on the 8 and, at the time, my wife refused to entertain the idea of me getting a 2-seater. After abotu 6 months with the 8 I had the opportunity to teach her to drive an MT and she fell in love with the Rotary.

But my point is I was all into my 8 until I kept reading how fast the Z is or rather, I kept reading people comparing the 8 to the Z with notable chips on their shoulders. Made me curious about the 350Z. And now, that I own both cars (well actually I gave the 8 to my wife), I can honestly say that the hype put on the Z by other car forums is well deserved. I don't even consider the Evo or STi because they are not "sports cars" and I promised myself that I'd never go back to a 4-banger...even if they are F/I.

...a 6MT g35 starts at $34,050...a 6MT 350Z runs anywhere from $27-$36k. On average a g costs about $50 more a month. Do you really belive that a difference of $50/mo. would break people's pockets if they are already capable of purchasing a $30k car? Don't be such a snob, the g is far from being an "elite" car...
