Used Z Decision
Hi All,
I'm looking at purchasing either a 2005 or 2006 350Z.
I have a bit of a problem though, I can't actually lay my hands on all the different iterations that the car comes in to make a truly informed decision.
I think I want the Touring package because I think I like the leather and the Bose but, is it truly worth the increase over the Enthusiast version?
How are the non-Bose and cloth in these years?
Also, I understand there may have been some change in the quality of materials used in the plastic and trim pieces between 2005 and 2006.
Does anyone have any input on these changes?
Thanks in advance.
G.

I have been looking around for a used one like this as well and I can tell you two things.
1) 2006 MT versions seem to have an oil consumption problem. I am unwary of picking one of them up
1.5) 2006 went to LED lights. I like the look myself so I hate to go back to the 2005.
2) most of the ones I have seen for sale around here(nashville) are being sold for more than they are worth. For a couple grand more here it seems you can just get a new one.
The everyone here really bangs on the bose system but its the only one that has a MP3 connector and thats big for me. I do not believe even on the 2007s that there is a mp3 connection on the base radio.

If you like leather then go for it.
If you plan on going with an aftermarket stereo, then the Bose is a waste.

The non-bose, BLOWS.
The cloth is fine for me. Power seats would have been nice but whatever, Touring model would have been another $3k and i didn't feel it was worth it.

The interior was changed and from what i've seen the '06 interior looks nicer.

I have an 04 Enthusiast, and I'm planning on get a ZR Touring. Main reason will be the Bose sound system. The non-Bose system sounds like the worst sh*t I have ever heard...I had to go out and change out all the speakers, head unit, added an amp and added a sub (which the Enthusiasts do not come with), and after 2 grand, I car sounds GREAT!!!
So now that I'm looking to get a ZR, I do not want to go in take out all the equipment I put in... it's hell to get to them, you have to remove both seats and open everything up...and I just want decently good sound, so I'm gonna get a Touring. I had a customer who just traded in a Enthusiast this past Saturday, and I took it out for a drive and listened to the sound and it was CRAP....
stereo shops will charge you an arm and a leg for labor to install speakers, headunit, etc....the Z's are considered the WORST vehicle to install stereo....

Side note: I'd rather install another stereo in a Z then spend an afternoon on my back under the car.

Something to think about is this...do you need what the touring gives you?
If it is down to leather and bose, don't do it. You can have your seats redone in fine leather, not the factory mediocure leather, for about $800 for both seats. As for power seats, how many times do you really move your seat in a 2 seater car. A waste in my opinion and heavier, too.
As for the stereo, spend $1,000 and you'll have sound 10 times better than the bose and you've gotten out of the deal $1,200 cheaper than the touring model.
Bottomline, get what makes you happy cause at the end of the day, you have to drive it.

I think my non-Bose sounds pretty damn good for an OEM system. I added an Infiniti Basslink and Kenwood head unit and I like the way it sounds. I don't need 3 10" subs and five amps to be happy with the sound.
2005 Track/35th also have the 300hp Rev-Up the 2006 Manuals have. I have almost 40k on mine and have yet to see any issues with oil consumption, even with several hard miles on the car including a few auto-crosses and two track days.
