I agree with Spoolin that double clutching does wear the synchros less. I find it funny that the majority of the people who have mosted in here have no understanding of what the synchros do and how they work but they continue to argue despite this.

Matt, there is no reason to double clutch anymore period. That is what this discussion is about. Telling someone they need to do it to make the tranny last longer is wrong. Today's modern tranny's do not require us to do double clutch period. And doing so will not make the tranny last any longer than someone not doing it. There is no actual evidence in todays modern trannys that double clutching will extend the life of the syncros or the tranny.
I am amazed at how many noobs came out of the wood work into this thread.

I never said that I recommended it. Saying it won't extend the life of the synchros when done probably is like saying using your brakes less won't extend the life of your brake pads. Will it extend the life of your transmission? I assume you are talking about double clutching vs rev matching. In this case probably not, unless you are someone who abuses your synchros by shifting fast and hard and by skipping gears, down shifting or up shifting. Also if the synchros have a history of failing first on the clutch you are using, then yes, double clutching would extend its life.

And again I will say let the syncros do their job. That is the reason they are installed in the transmission. DoubleClutching is a waste of time and not needed. There is no evidence this will extend the life of the syncros.

I'm certainly poor! Not nearly as poor as I was, thanks to a good job I found myself in... but far from well-off :P
I'll be able to pay off my 5 and 6 year loans in about 13 months though, so that's progress. But, I'll be getting an 84 mo. loan on the Z. :P (should be done in 48 months, but still.)
I am unstable.

Amazing. I for one understand completely how syncros work, but I still say double clutching is not needed. You don't need an engineering degree to figure this out, common sense should be enough.
Why is it when somebody disagrees with anothers opinion that they "don't understand" what's going on?

holy **** is this thread still going? the only vehicles that need to be double clutched to save the syncros are 18 wheelers. THERE IS NO NEED TO DOUBLE CLUTCH WITH ANY CAR MADE PAST 1980. ANYONE WHO THINKS OTHERWISE NEEDS TO STOP MASTURBATING TO FAST AND FURIOUS.

You are one sad sad man in one crazy mid life crisis who owns neither a G or Z at the moment who just loves to look at past posts to draw crazy conclusions.
Take a step back and look at yourself, you're twice my age, yet you act as if you're half my age.
I am extremely financially stable to tell you the truth. I could go backpacking through Europe for a year before I have to start working out of college. I already have a roth IRA (setup by myself) and my credit score is over 720 (top tier). I'm moving back in with my parents because they have a beautiful house close to my well paid job. All of my friends are close by and I get to reduce my expenses so I can continue to save for my house instead of renting right out of college like many post grads tend to do.
I gave that guy in that other thread solid advice and if he was smart he should take it because he is in no position to buy a Z.

So what if I do not own a Z or G anymore. I had TWO G35's a 04 and 05. I now own a 06 TL A-Spec which costs way more than a Z. I sold the G35 to someone who offered me a nice amount for it. I use to race it at MSR and TMS and really wanted something in the future that would be more of a dedicated car for that. And the G35 Sedan was not. I got the TL for my daily and plan to pick up my Z once I see the Nismos in person and that will make my decision.
BTW, you have NO one supporting you in this topic hardly at all. You are the kid and the one acting like it.
The guy in that thread would be better off getting rid of the maxima nad 15-16% interest rate and getting the Z at 6%~. In the long run he will save more money and have a new car.
